Special Delivery or 1st Class recorded?

Hello!

I'm trying to sell 50 quid worth of HVM/Waterstones gift vouchers on Ebay with the 5p BIN offer. However, I'm not sure which delivery service I should put on my listing. Special delivery or 1st class recorded? Can I buy posting insurance with 1st class recorded? I don't want my vouchers getting lost in the mail....

Thanks.

Recorded will *not* cover you if you are selling £50 of vouchers. it only covers up to £32.

And I belive that recorded doesn't cover cash/vouchers of any amount so you need to use Special Delivery
    Titch :)
  • Yep Recorded doesn't cover any kind of cash or vouchers, Special Delivery will cost £4.10 + whatever you feel the need to add for packaging etc (personally I'd prob charge £4.50 for this item)

I would offer both but in my terms I would explain that only the Special Delivery option provides cover, let the buyer decide whether they want to take the risk. Make it clear that Recorded covers up to £32 and Special Delivery covers upto £500.

The buyer takes no risk; it the sellers responsibility to ensure the item reaches the buyer. If I was the buyer I would use recorded in full knowledge that assuming I used PayPal I should be covered if item goes astray.

Having said all that I would probably send it recorded and run the risk.
  • Do not offer RECORDED, if it doesn't get there the buyer can claim the money back through Paypal but you won't be able to make a claim through Royal Mail so you will be the only one out of pocket.

Hintza, as the 5p BIN offer requires buyers to use Paypal (immediate payment), would I be covered under Paypal if I use a trackable service i.e. recorded delivery? Would Paypal rule against me if the vouchers are lost in mail?

YvonneCrossland, if the buyer claims through Paypal and I have a tracking number to show Paypal, would they still take my money from the account?

I was under the impression that as long as I provide a tracking number to Paypal to prove that I've sent the item, I would be covered.

Use Special Delivery only. There are too many dishonesty posties (ahem). Special Delivery is next day, pre 1pm, recorded delivery is just a trackable version of normal first class. The special goes out with a van driver and is classed as a priority, recorded goes out with a postie and is treated a normal mail, and sometimes 'gets lost in the system'.
I'm back after a break :money:

The idea of just sending it trackable and being covered is wrong.Using a trackable service is not sufficient to stop a chargeback if if never shows as delivered. Therefore the £50 of vouchers can only go special as if they do get lost you need to refund the buyer and recover your losses later via the RM and you can only do that with special as they are vouchers.
