We got our 30L Biorb today but I am now concerned that my hardwood console table will not be able to hold the weight.
Can anyone help in terms of having one before and having it on a table (rather than the stands or on a worktop) and whether I am worrying for no reason!

take the bio orb back as they are terrible tanks and way too small.0 -
Well they're fine for a single Siamese fighter but that's about it
As for weight... the water will weigh 30kg, the tank... I'm guessing 10-15kgs?
Will the table you sit it on take about 50kg?DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Aputsiaq is right, a biorb is totally unsuitable for goldfish. It is the wrong shape and way too small.A goldfish needs a MINIMUM of 40 litres and more as it grows,ie 2 goldfish if you don't want to keep buying new tanks, should have at least 150,ideally 200 litres.
Sorry to be blunt but all that will happen is that they will become stunted, get sick and die a miserable death. Please do some reading up on their needs. There are plenty of good websites on the internet, and they will all tell you that biorbs are only for show, without any consideration for the fish.

"This is going to sound really mean but in my opinion BiOrbs should never have ben invented nor should they be used to keep any species of fish - they are after all an overated goldfish bowl! I work in a very reputable North-Eastern fish specialist shop and we refuse to sell Bi-orbs due to their problamatic nature. We are very close to a well known Garden Centre, who don't give a damn what they sell their customers - for example they sell Bi-Orbs to their customers to house yellow bellied terrapins! We get all of their problems, most from them selling unusual tropical fish to unsuspecting beginners - for example Red-tailed catfish (not sharks) to people with 3 foot tanks - little do the cusomers know, that red-tails reach a minimum of 30 inches and a maximum of 5 feet! Back to BiOrbs - the filtration in BiOrbs is unsufficient for coldawater fish - some people will get away with it but most have problems, again we try to remedy it. The filtration might JUST cope with some small tropical fish. The main problem I have found with BiOrbs is that the nitrogen cycle takes twice as long to get through as a standard fish tank of the same gallons. This in itself shows the filters are incapable of performing correctly. So, sorry if I'm preaching but, although BiOrbs may look the part they certainly don't do what they are designed to do - keep healthy, happy fish, if I was you I would change to a nice simple 24 x 15 x 15, with undergravel filters,or possibly a little internal filter, get a heater and keep some healthy fish! Or, if you are going to keep your BiOrb, only get maybe 10 - 15 at most very small hardy tropical fish such as ones already recommended: Neons, glolights, danios, possibly one small species of corydora - don't get shrimps - most species as carnivores and will eat fish and the others are filter feeders and usually require high filtration to blast water past them so that they can feed. Don't get livebearers - most are bred in Asia and are have very weak bloodlines and any fluctuation in water quality will kill them.
Sorry again to preach - you were probably an unsuspecting customer who though that they looked nice - which they do - but looks aren't everything... "0 -
Two goldfish in the 30l Bio orb will be fine; but please don't have more than two. Goldfish can get quite large. You will still need to do full and partial water changes and some bottom vacumming as goldies are quite dirty fish. The filtration is no worse than a stand alone unit.
I have white mountain minnows in mine, and the set up looks very pretty - but you are paying well over the odds for the tank compared to a rectangular one.
I have mine on a shelf made of solid one inch pine and it's fine, if that helps.0
