Bit of an odd one, just looking for advice.

I am just curious about what i should do if something like this ever arises again, someone using my personal details, as im not really sure how to handle a situation like this (im quite a 'i dont want to get anyone into trouble type' too) I ended up just leaving this, and not taking it any further.

A while ago a guy approched me in a bar and started talking to me, he was very strange and i quickly made my excuses to leave, i live in quite a small town, and relised that he worked in the pharmacy that i had to walk by on my way to work everyday.

One day i was at work, but I was suffering from a kidney infection and had to go to a walk in doc's because of the pain, and they gave me a perscription, i REALLY did not want to go to the pharmacy he worked in, but it was late and it was the only one that was open (and i was DESPERATE for the antibiotics!!!!!!!!)

anyway, he trys to make small talk with me, im polite and brief. AT NO POINT in the time i was in there did he come into contact with my perscription note, or the box with my name on,... i handed it to someone else and was watching the whole time.

Next day i was looking at my facebook and i realised i HAD A MESSAGE FROM HIM..... now.... this guy does not know my name or anything like that, hes never contacted me before.... coinidence? I replied, asking how he found out who i was and he admitted to looking at my perscription.
I think this is disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!! that is a confidental bit of paper, i dont want people to know what im taking, where i live etc!?!

I dont know if im over reacting, as i said i just blocked him & didnt reply.
any ideas? sorry its a bit long for my first post!!!

This just screams weirdo... you must ring and speak to the Manager and report him, this is really serious.
If you are worried about calling the Pharnacy, ring your local Doctor and report him to them.
  • is he the parmacist or chemist? you could make a formal complaint.

or you could let it blow over.

i would be FUMING  if it happened to me.
  • hes a young pharmacy technician,... yeah,... i didnt know what to do, part of me wanted to say something because i was disgusted, but another part of me didnt want to cost someone their job (even though what he did was wrong)

    Hmmmm

I think whilst I understand your concern at the end of the day its probably all innocent enough and whilst he probably shouldnt have is it worth the hassle.

I would suggest you reply to him making him aware that you are not at all interested in him and actually find him finding your name out a bit concerning and that you do not wish to communicate with him in any way at all in future.

If he doesnt take the hint then take it further with the police.

Well all good and well you don't want to lose someone their job, but I am sure he is well aware of customer confidentiality and date protection etc as part of his work.

He could have done this to someone else already, or worse could do it again in the future, and what if something happens after that.

You should bring it to someones attention.

Whilst it may be upsetting if he loses his job, it would be as a consequence of his own actions. If he thinks for a moment that it is acceptable to use personal data for his own ends he is in the wrong job. Don't under any circumstances reply to him.

    How creepy!

I'd print off the messages where he has said he looked at your prescription and hand it in to whoever is in charge of the pharmacy.

The only thing that would stop me though is the thought that he may also know my address.
