    Absolute quality!

Phoned Capital One to reduce my credit limit. The bloke at the other end said "sorry Mr SS but we can only do that when your account comes into review which is every 3 months or so and it happens automatically!"

I said, "but I've done it a few times recently" and got the reply "erm, yes it's new procedure. It can only be done when your account is reviewed"!

Now at this point I was gonna kick-off with the poor bloke. No-one is gonna force me to have a higher limit than I want.

I said to him "you did hear me say I want to REDUCE my limit not INCREASE it didn't you?"

    Long pause.

    Longer than this.

    Even longer than this.

About now he pipes up with a small chuckle, "sorry Mr SS I thought you wanted to INCREASE your limit. Let me just check whether you can reduce it!"

He didn't even know it was possible to reduce the limit! :rotfl:

Hasn't he heard about the DFW Nerds? :rotfl:

LOL - Stand proud DF Nerd No 1. We salute you!

I've done this a couple of times with my HSBC credit card and every time they've said "oh, you do realise you won't be able to automatically raise your credit limit again don't you? It might be safer to leave it as it is so that it's there if you need it!"

Argh! Woman! Clearly your whiney nasaly voice is affecting your judgement and duties as a responsible lender! Can you not see I'm £29K in debt and live in my overdraft. Yes, OF COURSE I realise. I also realise that you are trying to keep me in a position whereby you make money from me. I am not stupid, I am one of Martin's MSE Army don't you know. Grrrrrr. Bloomin banks.

    Sorry, rant over :D

Capital aren't the only ones who can't comprehend that people might actually want to REDUCE their limits.....I have trouble with Mint every time I've phoned up to reduce the limit.

I have had - you can only reduce your limit once every 6 months (do you really want to tell me I can't reduce my limit??????), we must inform you that you can't increase your limit for the next 6 months and so on.

It might also be worth knowing that when I realised I had a £3600 limit (yes you read that right!) on my NEXT account I phoned up and reduced it to £200 - the guy I spoke to was gobsmacked and said he hadn't had anyone phone up asking to reduce their limit before! Anyway a couple of months went by and when the next statement arrived it still stated that my limit was £3600. I phoned them up and they said that although my limit was £3600, there was a note on my file stating that I could order goods only up to the value of £200.

So I sorted the situation out by closing the account completely.

SLIGHTLY off topic - but a good result nevertheless.

I saw the Nationwide advert on TV - the one dealing with how they proportion your CC payment instead of paying off the lowest interest rate first, then the second lowest etc. Phoned my CC provider (Halifax) and asked when they would do the same. "No Plans to implement this" was the reply - so why should I stay with you I asked???

Purchase rate dropped from 13.5% to 9.9% and balance transfer rate dropped to 6.9% - I don't use the card anymore, so think I'm saving around £20 per month interest!! :T

    Result! :D :j
