Simple test, plug an ethernet cable in and test your speed over a wired connection that is more than sufficient for a 50mb connection0

Why exactly is this Virgins fault?
From their website:Can I still receive 50Mb speeds with wireless?
If your computer is connected to a wireless "G" router with an Ethernet cable, then yes, but this would mean that you're not actually using the service wirelessly. You'll need a wireless "N" router and a wireless "N" enabled computer to be able to get our ultra fast up to 50Mb broadband service wirelessly. If your computer doesn't already have wireless built-in, you'll need to use a wireless 'N' adapter - we'll give you one of these as part of your package.
I assume you read things like this before you ordered?0 -
Should probably add that the further you are away from the wireless router, the slower the speed will be - which also isn't Virgin's fault, blame science.0

I would physically wire up your office or wherever you use the laptops the most and get the full speed via ethernet cables. If you want the freedom of wireless, to walk around or surf the net from the garden, then you have to accept that you wont get anywhere near the top speed.0

Hi thanks for your replies...my 'issue' with Virgin is that at no point in my initial telephone conversation was this discussed. The first I knew about there being an issue was when the internet kept dropping off and I phoned tech support. The installation guy had mentioned that we could use the adapter if we wanted to but only to boost the signal!! I'm happy using the adapters if it boosts our speeds when all three systems are on I just wasn't made aware that our system wasn't good enough and NO....I didn't read the small print this time...and I appreciate that I am at fault with that one...!! My 'bag'!June 2012 Clydesdale Loan=[STRIKE]£12620[/STRIKE]£1246.47- (only 5 payments left but just received £3955 back from it for PPI!!!)0

too be honest even if you have 80211N in your laptops i doubt you would notice that much differnce in speed
with wireless you have a greater latency anyway0 -
Also your upload speed is still an advantage over other packages, most macs come with wireless n, You should be able to downgrade but I feel it is your responsibility to ensure your equipment is up to date.
Exactly.I once had a service call when I was at VM,the customer had a service tech sent out (me) because he could'nt connect his PC to the cable modem.
After 2 minutes I could see why....
It was Windows 95!
He did'nt read the small print & as NTL were'nt doing managed installs at the time, the installer did'nt check either,as for the sales person checking.......0
