New Problem with car after work done in a garage! Where do I stand??

Hello,

With all the recent weather I unfortunatly curbed my car and did some damage. I took my car to ATS and had quite a bit of work done listed below. I have had the car back 5 days and it doesn't seem right. It is pulling a little bit to the left and when I touch the brakes a little bit they squeak. When driving especially at low speeds it feels like they are rubbing. What can I do and what are my rights with ATS? Can I demand that they fix it for free?? I spent £630 getting it fixed in the first place!! Help!

2 shocks
1 track rod end
1 alloy
1 tie rod
2 new tyres

Have you taken it back and asked them to look at it. Sounds like a good place to start.
  • Take it back and ask nicely for it to be looked at. FOC of course...

Then never use ATS type companies again.
I'm surprised they didnt tell you it needed a new exhaust, discs, pads...

It entirely depends on what is wrong with it.

If they have been neglient in their repairs then yes. If your car has just broken then no.

£630.....My car cost less than that and that was including doing a major (swap everything service)....ATS are insane for tyre prices...then again so are hi-q and kwik fit...black circles are so much cheaper

wow ats charged that for a few small bits that a garage would of charged way less.

if you gave a a huge wack wich i suspect you did (are the syptoms you say on the damaged repaired side) then i would suspect the the wheel hub (the part that holds your wheel, brake disc and brake caliper, suspension, wishbone, track end) is bent causing the brake disc to rub against the pad, straighten the wheels out stand back from the car and look at both wheels do they both look vertical or is on the wonk? if one is on the wonk then the hub maybe bent.

like so. ( looking at the front of your car from a distance)

\--car--] driverside wheel bent out at top and leaning in at bottom
[--car--/ passenger side leaning out at top and leaning in at bottom
both wheels look the same. they're ok.

if hub is bent then that maybe an oversight on their part if it was the damaged side.

but i wouldnt have the work done there.

I do not use ATS, but I have to say that they are not just a "few small bits" - 2 shocks, 2 tyres, alloy wheel, two small suspension parts, plus labour.
Yes, a wheel bearing hub assembly could be out of line, but looking at will not tell you. The car needs to have its alignment checked, which will show if anything is out of place. Then the investigation needs to start on the other components.
  • The price might not be so bad. The alloy can cost up to £400 alone, if bought new.

I suspect with replacing the track rod end they haven't done a proper alignment.
  • Been back they have had it up and checked all the work that was done, all fine!! They then looked at the alignment and it was 4mm out which they have done. Asked about the brake. And they said they were fine, could be the weather. Drove it home and I still think it is pulling. Any ideas??
  • take to a independant garage for second opinion? not ats

take it to another independant garage explain what work you got done at a.t.s. and what your problem is if alignment is out you will probably have to pay about £25 to£30 .i would phone a.t.s. and tell them which garage you are at and ask them if they are going to pay you for it getting done properly. or if you still think car is pulling take it back to a.t.s and tell them after all it only takes 5min to check it.
i work with a tyre ffirm and its not unusuall for alignment to be out ater adjusting it i usually tell customers to bring car back for a free check about 1 week later
