I'd be interested in this aswell. I'm considering using something to whiten my teeth. I might have a very pre-wedding test to see how good it is. ie. this summer instead of next summer when my wedding is!

I'm also concerned that teeth whitening stuff might do some damage to my tooth enamel? or am i just being overly cautious here!

To be honest most of the teeth whitening stuff is a bit pants. If you contact the dentist and get a proper hygenist appt for about a week before the wedding they work wonders. I am a smoker and drink tea like my life depends on it, yet my hygenist gives me pearly whites every 6 months! Worth every penny of the £35 it costs!!

    Why "apart from the dentist"?

Fair enough, if you smoke you can't really value you teeth very much, but why do you want to damage them even more especially for your wedding?
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

I'm guessing she isnt registered at one, she thinks it will be too expensive, or she has a dentist phobia?!

Hi, i'm a dental hygienist/therapist and also future bride-to-be :D Whitening kits you can buy in the shops (and toothpastes) are pretty rubbish, you wont see much difference. I know I am biased but most staining from smoking is what we call 'extrinsic' i.e on the surface of your teeth, and can be cleaned off by any hygienist worth their qualifications! Whitening done by the dentist is good but will not prevent the staining from the smoking returning, it will just be sitting on top of your whiter teeth. I would make a hygienist appt, if you are registered with a dentist, if not then try maybe try and get one? xx

As a non dentist or non hygienist, I can recommend hygientist, mine is a godsend! She is non judgementmental about why my teeth end up as stained as they are but makes them look amazing every time :D
