I bought a sandwich toaster from Asda about 6 weeks ago, just a cheap one but it worked really well. 2 days ago I had to take it back as the bottom fell off (melted I think). Anyway, I didn't have my receipt and was anticipating having to haggle a bit, but to my surprise, the lady at the customer service desk took one look at it and told me to go and get a replacement one straight away without any questions or argument! She just packed it in a bag and gave me the replacement receipt in case I had to return this one.

I think this was really good customer relations and I think some of the other snotty larger companies could take a note out of Asda's book with regards to returns. I was very pleased!

I think one reason why they took it back so easily is because manufacturers have certain "DOA" periods for items.

For instance, if someone was to bring a Pure radio back to me with a fault (within a year of purchase) I can send it back to the manufacturer and we get our money back from them. The manufacturer doesnt require a customer proof of purchase, so even if they've lost their receipt, we haven't really lost anything.

I suspect Asda will have a similar agreement with manufacturers.

If it's something with a shorter DOA period, you'd need proof of purchase for repairs from the manufacturer under warranty.

I ordered online a tv stand, guarenteed delivery on tuesday last. after 5 phone calls ( to their call centre in I suspect india at 5Pence a minute, Oh and the call centre employees all have Indian accents but strangly are called Wayne Zoe Eric Rudi and Rudi (Yeah as if I beleive that))and 2 emails I have had 3 promises of return calls none of which have arrived, and no reply to the emails. They have had my money and now dont seem to give a toss.
I will never EVER deal with them and recommend that all moneysavers do likewise.

Why, becuase your not happy? havn't you read the posts above yours??!!

I was in Asda the other day (middlebrook, Bolton) and there were two people on the customer service and the man was going to the woman, "stop putting your scissors in my area!" She took offence and started swearing at him, then he responded back and started yeling at her and calling her a f*cking b1tch before turning to me and said with a smile "welcome to Asda". To be honest i sort of like service like that!
