You could always gently push the "blanking plate" carefully into the computer. It will then lie ontop of the FDD, you will be able to lift it out with your fingers and pop it back into place.

If you find you have to be quite forceful, behing the "blanking plate" you will find a thin strip of holed metal, carefully wiggle this metal from side to side. This piece of metal would be removed if a new drive was installed.

Tony, these blanking plates sit behind the front panel and cant be taken out and put in easily they also have a bit they hook in to on the right and a springy clip on the left so they cant be put back easily from the front.

Also dont remove the metal from behind, they are there and allegedly impove airflow and stop radiation, the only tme to remove them is when you putting a drive in its place.
when I do the install I will take some photos for you

Sorry loulou the guy bought the wrong pc but it would do the job so rather then send it beck he kept it he got the 3100 and no the 5150 dell knocked him £50 off when he tried to return it so he was happy. Unfortunalty it doesnt help you.
to remove the side you push back on the thing at the top of the pc at the back the side should just op out and you pull it off the rest of the way, the same should happen when you move the leaver inside the case thee front will fall off. I hope you get it sorted.
