free tv via internet

do away with the need for tv, freeview box (and even the licence fee) by watching all the freeview channels (including bbc) streamed via the internet. http://www.tvguide.co.uk/tv_channel_streams.asp

  • Unfortunately I can't do this because I only have prepaid mobile broadband: if I am careful it will last until the middle of 2011 but if I watched these programmes I hate to think how soon it would run out!

There is also the question of speed and quality on the 3 network, and my LCD TV has a very good picture quality and larger screen than my laptop.

Do you have to be in the UK to be able to watch these channels?

I'll give this a go and see how it compares to tvcatchup.com...

Regarding the OP: Surely you still have to pay the licence fee if you watch live broadcast TV, regardless of how you watch it. Unless I'm much mistaken, using a system like this without a TV licence is no different to watching a normal TV without one.

  • Hi,

There is a disclaimer within the BBC iPlayer stating:
"Don't forget, in order to watch TV online as it is being broadcast, you still need a TV Licence."

lol who cares what bbc think.
  • If you watch as it is broadcast you need a licence. You don't for previously broadcast material (such as iPlayer).

Whether you could be caught is another matter - they might not actually catch you in the act but your browser's cache might give you away.
