Well, did as suggested here and backed up profiles externally, deleted em from PC, relaunched TB which asked me to provide user name/email/password and then seemed to produce a new account titled by my yahoo a/c address.
Started d/ling from 4000+ messages only to stall halfway thru with same alert re-appearing

"The RETR command did not succeed. Error retrieving a message. Mail server pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk responded: problem retrieving message" [/FONT]
Had seen, via hours of scouring Mozilla forums,
- to Oldwiring......perhaps reading threads before posting in them might inform you that your advice was already taken PRIOR to my first post......waste of your time and mine? Might allow you to feel superior though; congrats on that!-
suggestion to delete last online message d/loaded if RETR alert occurs.....did that with last account and same for this new one = NOTHING CHANGES!
Now have 1 of 2849 mails waiting to d/l rather than previously 1 of 787....that improvement or not?
Re Debitcardmayhem have opened up DISC SPACE section which is ticked to give "don't delete any messages" and also "keep starred messages" with all other options left unchecked.. R clicking INBOX shows Retention Policy "use my a/c settings".
Not sure what all that means but disc space is not a problem for me. Just need TB to function as it did for years prior to 10 1 10.
Also understand that Sent mails from TB only get saved on my PC; but was wary of deleting any profiles if that meant losing them.
So what now, if anyone has any suggestions? Should I delete this new a/c and restore the old one? The new a/c has no SENT messages in the profile of course....hope I can still find them in the old profile.
Thanks for the helpers and no thanks to the scoffer.0 -
I'm going to try and download emails from my Yahoo account with Thunderbird. I can't remember if Thunderbird has the settings for Subject / Headers only
When I mentioned about deleting accounts from Thunderbird it's done by
Tools > Account Settings then removing everything from there. You would then backup the directory and delete it
Have you tried checking the web interface for the last email it finds with the problem to see if you can open the email after the working one
EDIT - I get the same message myself, probably an issue with Yahoo or TB3
Give me about 15 mins, gonna try a couple thingsOwner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

Ta for that latest advice Lil306. I followed advice to another poster, or in same threads, on Moz support pages, re deleting the last email before the d/loading stopped so that message has gone now. Expected the next mail would then start d/loading but it didn't. So deleted the next in online a/c and still nothing changed.
If major problem with yahoo/TB3 would have expected to find more up to date queries on the web but haven't found that despite similar problems occurring over the last few months/years with others. MOZ forums are not easy to navigate as they seem to denote another posed query as a reply so waste so much time down cul-de-sacs.
Have to leave PC for hours now so once again thanks to all who have offered assistance.
Least can still use online a/c if needed.0 -

Deleting the messages does nothing, I thought it's the way it was pulling headers. I'm trying to replicate the issue
FYI - it works fine with Microsoft Outlook. So I'm guessing it's one of the following
1 - Yahoo servers don't like Thunderbird
2 - Some flaw in Thunderbird 3
3 - Security settings or the way TB3 downloads message headers
Next thing Im going to try is with TB2 to see if it's a design flaw, I suspect this will be out of my hands, but I'll dig away at it to see if I can fix it. You may see some replies in this post, but it's more to remind me :rotfl:Owner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

JasX, your stating the obvious which I already know. I know how Thunderbird works I've used it for ages so I understand the troubleshooting
BTW - moving Thunderbird profile folder doesn't "delete them" it just confuses Thunderbird and messes up the profile more, because it uses the Profile.ini to find the profile it's more of a chance to modify that than anything else
My profile isn't corrupted because it's a first time install. The problem is related to Thunderbird / Yahoo settings. This is to determine a way for it to be fixed. I didn't write the program so I don't know of all it's functions, I just approach the problem systematicallyOwner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

Stephanie, can you logon to your Yahoo account through the web and do a search through the Spam email folder
If everything in there is junk, please EMPTY it and then try downloading the emails again.
I just cleared my spam folder and it downloaded all my messages. Just want to rule it out, as spam obviously has bad links could be throwing it out. I'd like to see if it has any affectOwner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

If you remove files from your profile folder by pressing the 'delete' button to 'move' them to the recycle bin or manually remove them to somewhere else you achieve the same end. Nobody said anything about moving folders.0 -
I'd shut down TB and then grab all your profile files (the ones you found earlier) and move them somewhere else to a backup folder.
-effectively deleting them but if you just move them away you can put them back if needs be.
reopen TB and redownload all your emails, will mean you need to do the lot again but should clear out any problems/corruptions on your profile by forcing it to recreate it.
That looks like you're saying move them to another folder to me ?
Anyways, that's not the point. i'm trying to fix the program for StephanieOwner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them
