what can i do about my broken boiler?

OK, first time on somthing like this but i really dont no what 2 do?? Im a single parent to my one year old son, living in my own flat and on benefits. My boiler broke down there before christmas and ive had 3 different tradesmen out and all say i need a new one, cheapest quote ive had is £800, now of course i do not have money like this!! The flat itself is only 3 years old as is the boiler and ive had 2 have the boiler fixed 2 times before this time, now its just given up!

I have no heating or hot water, which is not good, as i need both 4 my son, spesh with this weather!

im waiting 2 hear back from the citzen advice, but if anyone has any advice themselfs or any help they can offer, that would be great!

thank you in advice!

  • Does the boiler have any warranty as it's only 3 years old?

Alternatively, British Gas do a fixed rate fix, and will replace whatever is required for (IIRC) £190. AFAIK some other Gas Companies have a similar scheme :)
  • As the flat is only three years old, I assume it was a new build and not a renovation, would the NHBC cert cover the boiler? Maybe NHBC could advise you.
  • Put your postcode into the British Gas website and it will tell you the fixed fee for your area. There is also a "no fix, no fee" policy.

As you are on benefits you could get a new boiler via Warmfront. http://www.warmfront.co.uk/

Grants of up to £3,500 for a new boiler are available for those on some benefits in England via the Warm Front scheme.

Beware of the big companies as they overcharge.

Make/Model/description of fault? It shouldnt need replacing. If it does it is either crap or more likely,it was never installed correctly in the first place!
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
