I have recently cancelled my Sky TV agreement and had planned to switch to Virgin. However, Virgin just informed me they don't cover my area. Can someone please tell me what the alternatives are. I just want a basic package ie no sports or movie channels. Thanks.

Freesat or Freeview for non-subscription channels-depends what you mean by 'basic package'?
Or BT Vision if you want to waste your money.
Simplest option is just to carry on using your Sky box to get the non-sub channels. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Thanks. When you say carry on using my Sky box do you mean I don't need to subscribe to any company's package but that I can get the main channels through the Sky box for nothing?0 -

I didn't know this - thanks. Can you or anyone tell me what constitutes the ' main channels'? Am assuming its BBC ITV and Channel 4 in their various forms.
...and the other BBC and ITV channels. There are quite a few others, but not many worth mentioning.
You may lose FIVE, but that can be added in manually to the box.
As Inactive says, pull your card out and scroll through the channels. You'll be able to see quickly what's left.Dave. :wave:0 -

Thanks. This info is so helpful. Sorry I really am green! But.... how can channels be added manually?
Dont need movie channels as I subscribe to LoveFilm which is pretty good and get 4 films a month for under £6.0 -

The only channels you can add are the free ones that you would normally get. You can't add subscription channels.
FIVE can be added by following the instructions here.Dave. :wave:0
