  • Hi there,
If you are setting up a website, why not think of promoting its presence to wedding photographers/ bridal shops etc? After all, 99% of visitors to their premises are planning their weddings! An idea would be to design and print some leaflets advertising your website, and convince them to promote your service as as 'add-on' to their own product/service.

As an incentive to the retailer, offer them some sort of referral payment for every confirmed order they pass to you....

  • Hi,

If you are setting up a full website, look at setting up an account with google adwords too.

oh the referrals thing is a great idea....i forgot about that lol

I spent a few hours online looking for companies involved in vw weddings and contacted them to swap web links etc

also at shows i take business cards for other services and they do the same for me, it works quite nicely

  • I'm looking at things I've made to feature...shall I stick with the ivory/white/cream sets which look very wedding-y?
I've made bright pink and black stationery for a friends wedding, but I'm not sure if I should show them off as a different available element, or try to stick with an elegant look....

    Hi there,

I'm no expert, but i'm sure that if you display all of your existing designs to date, it tells the potential buyer you/your company posess a good eye in your ideas and design skills, and me also encourage them to diversify from the stereotypical white/ivory designs.

    show it all :)

its good to show the elegant traditional designs...but.....not everyone wants that, a lot of people will want to go against the grain and have something a bit different

for instance I have a 'standard' design that I do and that I use for the samples on my stand, but I show a variety of designs, and I show all the bespoke work i have done in the past so people can get an idea for what I am capable of doing

also if people can see a nice variety it will help kick start them with thinking about what they want

Book a stand at a wedding fair, find wedding planners in your local area and talk to them, if you are good and they build up a good rapport with you then they will recommend you or even stock your stationery.

Definitely you will need a website and you will also need to speak to the HMRC about setting up as self employed (they are quite nice and helpful).

Get yourself onto Facebook too - there is even a group there called MSE Weddings (I think that's what its called) which is most of the folks from this thread on MSE. If you are on facebook then you can add your weblinks to other groups, also think about twitter and linkedin.
