Wedding Stationary

Hi,
I've been designing wedding stationary for friends and family for a few months, and would now like to advertise myself online. Trouble is, I don't know where to promote myself!

I'm in the process of setting up an etsy shop, but has anyone got any suggestions for where I should post the link? I've got no idea where people look for this kind of thing.

Thank you!

I used to sell wedding invitations, save the date, rsvp, party invitations, change of address cards etc on ebay. I had a shop there at one point and it generated a fair amount of income, however it was sporadic, some weeks I got sooo many orders I found it difficult to fulfill them, others I got maybe one or two. It might be a good place to start it you are just starting out, but obviously you would have to factor in the costs.
    Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs

    30lb lost of 30lb by June 2012 :j:j:j (80lb overall goal)

i dont think she would be allowed to do that? as it would be like advertising on here I think?
i might be wrong tho, just dont want to see the op getting in trouble lol

I make and sell stationery, but at the mo its just specialised stuff (vw themed), I have a stand at a lot of vw shows, I am on a lot of the forums, and I have a website that I advertise at shows etc and this year i plan on taking a leap and advertising either on the big vw forum or in a agazine ...scary prices tho lol
I am planning on branching out into non vw stuff soon and am planning on using ebay to kick start it also thought I would try and get a long to a couple of wedding fairs and craft fairs (depending on cost)

ebay is a nice easy way to reach lots of people and see what the reaction is, without too much outlay :)

  • Ah sorry, I'm just nosey. Don't want to get anyone in trouble!

By the way OP, it's StationEry. StationAry means not going anywhere! Definitely something you need to know before you head to ebay!
  • I knew I'd spelt it wrong! I wrote stationery first, but changed it. Grrr.

I'm setting up a blog to show off some of my best, I'll add the link to my profile and post on here, then if you think they are good enough, I'll set up an Ebay shop and see how it goes. Thank you!

biggest tip i can think of, is make sure you take really good photos, I have seen so many people on ebay who let themselves down with crappy photos that are all blurred and stuff

second tip - a good description will go a logn way to help you, dont just say 'wedding invite' etc make it sound amazing ' hand made wedding invitation featuring etc etc'

third tip - be flexible :) a lot of people will know what colour they want, so even if you have only made one sample of a piece of stationery make it clear that you can make it in a variety of colours, all they need to do is ask

You say you have already made stationery for friends and family, so it would be good to use photos/samples of those and ask them to give you a review, then you can post this on your site too (i always like to read comments from happy customers before i buy things)

    hmmm what else lol

if you want to build your own site there are lots of places around that you can get a domain name and a site builder, i use 123-reg.co.uk its nice and easy to use and doesnt cost the earth...but I would suggest you wait a bit before you do that, just start off with ebay/etsy etc and see how it goes then if you think you are doing well enough to warrant it you can carry on to your own site

as i say its a bit different for me as my stuff is 'themed' so i have a different angle to approach it from, but as long as you get your stuff seen you cant go far wrong

oh and dont be unrealistic about price, you might see places with high prices but that doesnt mean they sell anything, think about what you would be willing to pay, and take it from there (obviously you need to work out your costs too)

oh another - i offer a sample service, so if someone contacts me with an idea I will make one invite (or whatever it is they are looking for) for them to their ideas (a lot of people want their own vw's or particular colours etc) this seems to be a big winner with everyone i have dealt with, they like to be able to touch a sample before they buy the lot

and another - just cus its online, don't lose the personal touch, I try to get to know my customers over the time I work with them (most couples I have done work for have started off with invites and then wanted other items to match leading up to the day) I try to keep track of all the weddings I do work for and send a card for the day, its a nice little touch that people really do appreciate, and it shows its a personal service and its not just some printers somewhere chucking out masses of invites to faceless customers
