I had to re-read the OP's first post. At first I thought the bank was in the wrong -but if you didn't clear the account with the early payment then you are entirely to blame.

No good saying you've been good for "3 years" as an excuse either. You broke your contract.

Saying that I still think it's worth phoning them again and being very nice and if you get some numpty who can't help phone back and maybe the next person will help.

Accept your responsibilty in the matter too.

A DD for the minimum payment is an absoloute must for any type of credit card, it's your get out of jail free card and to be honest i don't care what excuses people have for not setting up a DD, it's your own fault when you miss payments for whatever reason.

There are as many posts on here about people having problems due to Direct Debits as those who have problems because they didn't set one up. Currently there is an ongoing thread where a Direct Debit wasn't taken, and the Card Provider are saying that the Direct Debit was cancelled because it hadn't been called in 6 months.

Personally I like to control my finances, not have my creditors control my finances. I pay them how much I want when I want. By not using Direct Debits I can vary which account I pay from, when I pay and how much I pay. I can even pay directly from my business account.

I once had a problem similar to the OPs where a Balance Transfer was processed "too quickly" and ended up crediting the account on the same day as the statement was produced. Because of this it didn't count as covering the Minimum Payment. A quick call to the Card Provider, explaining what had happened and they agreed to waive the Minimum Payment for the following month.

Be careful with Citibank as I am sure I was stung when I used to pay the minimum by DD. As I paid my balance in full almost always so say my balance was £200.00 and was on £10.00 min payment, I transferred £190.00 expecting the £10.00 to come off, but it did not.

It explains this losely in the statement.
