in Credit cards
 here is the story, i always pay my bill on time for the last 3 years, last month i paid it a bit earlier because of post etc, anyway they generated the statement date on the 4th, i send the money via bacs the day before and it hit the account same day as the statement date! spoke to them and they are saying i paid to early and thertefore i missed the payment? gave me a 12 pound charge as well as increasing my apr to 29.9% from and probaly reporting a late payment to my CRA aswell! my argument is the statement was produced on the 4th and they got more than the min payment on the 4th! if it got there the day before then I hold my hands up, also it says on all the statements allow 4 days for payment to reach them if using internet banking, any they did not budge and will get a manager to call me back blah blah! what are you guys thoughts on this?

Credits hit the account at the start of the day, ie 00:01. In addition, it appears that Faster Payments can hit the account at any time throughout the day.
But, and this is what's against you, statements are closed off at the end of the day, ie 23:59.
It's worth a formal complaint, especially if the punishments are severe, ie £12 fee/damage to credit file/APR increased*/loss of promotional rate/etc, but I'm not sure it'll get you anywhere to be honest.
* Exercise your right to 'opt-out' if this is the case.0 -
I'm not sure I understand the situation but it seems you made a payment 1 day before your statement was issued and unfortunately, Citi didn't recognise it as a credit for your current billing cycle when it arrived on the same day. It's very borderline but I agree with YorkshireBoy.
It would be wise to set up a direct debit payment facility - which would prevent you from ever missing a payment (unless your DD failed).0 -
No offence but i can't understand for the life of me why people still do this!
A DD for the minimum payment is an absoloute must for any type of credit card, it's your get out of jail free card and to be honest i don't care what excuses people have for not setting up a DD, it's your own fault when you miss payments for whatever reason.
If you don't know the rules, don't play the game, simple!
There! rant over!0 -
Normally the card issuer gives you about 20 days to pay. So why did you pay before the statement was issued? You just need to be more carefull next time.0

You set up a DD for the minimum amount.
Then if you wish to pay more then you can by BACS. There is no need to change the amount of the DD.
That way your payments wil never be late or early.0 -

Perhaps when you phoned, you vented at them, rather than explaining the situation clearly and concisely, thus allowing the person answering the phone the chance to get a hold of the situation. Maybe thats not what happened, who knows.
Anyway, unfortunately the payment arrived before the statement was produced (by a matter of hours, unluckily enough). However, the fact stands, it arrived before the "due period".
I cant see that you've got a leg to stand on, I'm afraid. Just giving my honest opinion.0
