3 are offering the new Sony Ericsson and Nokia phones

Options
I was planning to leave 3 in September as my contract was ending. However this would have only been due to me wanting the new Sony Ericsson k800 with a 3.2 megapixel camera (I'm too tight to buy a digital camera). However I've just visited their site and they offer this phone as well as the new Nokia N80. Perhaps their catching up with the competition?! It would have been a shame to leave as I've had no problems with their reception or customer service (apart from one incident which was resolved within 10 minutes).

I know how you feel skimshandy, im in that position too. I currently have 4 contracts coming to an end. 2 of them with 3 and 2 with o2. The 3 contracts i have phoned to cancel as of 20th July (these were Nokia 7600 full cashback contracts at £30 per month) and the o2 ones i have renewed although they have messed up with one and not changed the tariff and sent me a duff E900 which i have sent back today.
I have just rang 3 to see what they could offer if i had a Nokia N80 (as o2 wanted to charge me £150 for one) and they said they havent got any and are not sure when they will get any in. He tried to get me to go for the K800i and said if i took that for free he would also add a £176.25 credit to my account (so in effect the first 6 months would be free, almost) and then after 6 months i could always downgrade to a lower tariff than the current £30 if i wanted to. I would get 500 xnet minutes and 100 texts included.
I really dont know what to do as i would like to take advantage of a new handset etc ( o2 offered new phone, E900, and 100 xnet minutes and 300 texts per month for £10 which we had been paying £30 for) but am thiniking i would like the N80.
I have absolutely no problems with going with 3 ( i would actually prefer them to o2 as they have been much better than o2 with me personally when problems have arisen) but im thinking i would prefer the N80.
Can someone clarify for me, with the N80 having wi-fi does that mean i would be able to use my wireless router to connect to the internet on my phone without paying anything to either o2 or 3? The man at 3 did say though that to connect you wold have to but add ons but i dont know if thats the case with the N80. Also at a later date if i could get the N80 from 3 would i be able to get it unlocked in the future?
    Thanks
Another thing is when have i officially started my new 12 months with o2 as if i did decide to cancel would i be able to? I still havent got my new handset which was part of the contract and also my tariff hasnt changed. So could i just phone when they receive the handset back and say just cancel?

Ah well, perhaps I'm experiencing for the first time '3's dodgy customer service. However, it's similar to the service I previously had with Orange and no doubt would be the same anywhere I went. Rang up yesterday afternoon to ask when I would be entitled to an upgrade. He offered me 6 months half price and a Nokia N70 (I want a Sony Ericsson K800i). I said I'd think about it so he offered to the deal £176.25 credit. I didn't want to push the boat out by asking for a brand new handset so I asked him to ring me back which he never did.

I got in contact later and the note was clearly on my account specifing the details of the upgrade. This lady however gave me a list of phones that were available. I asked was the Sony Ericsson K800i available for free and she said yes, however it was out of stock. I asked if she knew when it was in stock and she said she didn't know and had no way of finding out, she even offered me the Nokia N80 which is also a brand new phone.

Later on I contacted a different department to ask if the phone was available. He put me through to upgrades who previously couldn't tell me if it was available or not. Guess what?! The lady told me it was out of stock in one colour but available in the other colour. I said great, there should be a note on my account with details of an upgrade i've been offered. 'Sorry sir, there are no details of an upgrade offer and you cannot upgrade until August 11th'. What a palava, I couldn't be bothered to argue so I'll probably just wait until the 11th August, no doubt to be messed about again!

It also takes an age for your call to be answered. I called this morning and at the beginning there's a pre-recorded message saying 'due to adverse weather conditions in India, you may take a while for your call to be answered.' Bloody hell, excuses excuses. I checked the weather forecast and it's hardly a monsoon!

skimshady, not sure if it makes a difference or not but i did actually cancel the 3 contracts on 20th June (30 days notice so would end 20th July) but recently saw they had the N80 handsets which is why i phoned them up. Perhaps that is why they are offering what they can to keep me, i dont know.

I phoned back last night though and have taken both the 3 contracts out for a further 12 months now but with K800i phones. These will go on ebay and hopefully get around £300 which will alllow me to pay off both contracts for the year and have just over £100 profit on each. The kids can then keep the sims and have their 500 minutes and 100 texts and i can perhaps get something with the £200ish pound profit. Just looked on ebay and there are some buy it now N80's for £240 which i think is rather good.

Im rather put off cancelling my o2 contract though as i feel even if i just took advantage of a free new handset e.g, E900, N70 etc i could get more than enough for it on ebay to cover the cost of my years contract (£120 as they have offered it for just £10 per month on renewal instead of £30) and still have the sim for the minutes and texts every month.

This whole phone thing gives me a headache!!! You get to the point where youve had enough of wondering what to do and think sod it!! Im building my courage up to ring o2 and say that because ive had to send the dodgy E900 back yesterday and they have messed up my tariff i want to leave and cancel and hope they offer the N80 at a lesser price than £150. I will tell them 3's offer and see what they say. I hope they will match one way or another then my headache will be over and everything sorted. :j If not i will be back to square one.
