New Driver Car insurance.
Im finding it a bit of a mine-field to get a good quote to insure my 1998 Fiat Cinq...
Im 24 and just passed in November.
The cheapest quotes at the moment I can find are between £750-900 which after numerous searches seems fair enough. However, the minute I google the cheapest quote suppliers (Quinn, Postoffice, M&S, Kwikfitt, Aim) all I find is awful reviews which makes me think twice.
So my question is, what do I do? Or what do you do? Are all insurers like that? Do I just bite the bullet, get the cheapest quote and hope for the best? I would rather have an ok insurer at a slightly higher price than the lowest possible quote. What do you suggest?
Thanks for any help, I dont really have anyone else to ask about this kind of thing.:o

they are all the same really, depends on who handles any claim made, yes some get more stick than others, but at the end of the day the customer service is only as good as the people on the phone,
I would say go with the cheapest quote and hopefully have no need to make a claim, then after a few years of NCB pick and choose a bit moreIMOJACAR

Bottom line is; go with the cheapest that covers all your requirementshartcjhart wrote: »they are all the same really, depends on who handles any claim made, yes some get more stick than others, but at the end of the day the customer service is only as good as the people on the phone,
Also, have you tried a Broker as opposed to a specific Ins Co? A decent broker will get you the best deal and a really good one will help if you do need to make any claim0 -
Thanks so far.
No I havent tried a broker, Im just doing all the comparison sites.
As far as what I need; cars not worth anything (£400 tops) and I dont really need a car for work or anything, so I guess that means just 3rd party, F & T. As a new driver is it worth getting anything fully compo though? I could probably do up to about 200 excess.Aim - BUYING A HOUSE  by November 2013!Saved = 100% on 03/07/12 :j0 -
The thing to remember is that people will only really talk about insurance companies if they have had a bad time of it.
Quinn however are notoriously bad!
Have you tried Direct Line and Aviva?
TBH, the £750-£900 price range doesn't sound too bad considering your circumstances. Another little trick, god knows how or why it works is to get quotes for fully comp - sometimes they come up cheaper!
Also, somewhere on here Martin has a car insurance & jobs chart which allows you to see if you are using the best "job discription"

Might be of use!Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0 -
Done the job thing, thanks though, its so crazy and arbitrary! And followed Martins guide to the letter.
Direct line (whom Im a named driver with) quote was over 1K!!!! I might call them up just before I commit to the best quote and ask if they will match it though considered Im named on my BF policy with them.Aim - BUYING A HOUSE  by November 2013!Saved = 100% on 03/07/12 :j0 -
Are you adding your BF to the policy? or perhaps a family member. This might help.0

I have also recently passed my test and insured my first car in December. I found that adding my bf as named driver made my premium about £200 cheaper. Also once I'd found the best quote (Admiral were cheapest for me) I gave them a call and asked if they could do it any cheaper and got another £60 off :j0

BF actually passed after me! (A matter of days) but I have asked my dad if he wouldnt mind going on if it lowers my premium, ill try that, though hes worried about his NCB, but its protected unless he actually has an accident in it, right?
So sorry if Im asking stupid questions, like I said, my dad I think has had the same insurer since he passed and my bf's quote was ok because he was 25+. Thanks everyone.Aim - BUYING A HOUSE  by November 2013!Saved = 100% on 03/07/12 :j0 -

That is a good point, adding a more experienced driver to the policy CAN bring the insurance down sometimes. Make sure you have them as a named driver though otherwise you are commiting insurance fraud.Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0 -
Yep, read all about fronting when its what my bf wanted to originally do, no problemo.Aim - BUYING A HOUSE  by November 2013!Saved = 100% on 03/07/12 :j0
