I think the idea is so that the children of low income or no income families have the same access to studies as those in higher earning families. An awful lot of homework now is based on the assumption that there is a pc available within the home to do research and submit.

Not all those on benefits will be going to the job centre to sign on....and these computers are not designed for the parents but the children.

I did without a computer until I was 44 years old. That idea is rubbish, there is access in schools and libraries to computers, you don't really need one for school homework, maybe degree level, but not through your ordinary school life.

Hiya do you have to have kids AND be on jsa to get another laptop and your internet paid?
Or can you just get it if you get income-based jsa but dont have a kid?

And 2ndly will they actually post you standard laptop,
or will they give you a few hundred pounds of money which you can use towards buying a laptop of your choice?

You have to have a child in the relevant years at school.

They don't post you money, you get given a debit card like thing which you use to purchase the laptop ONLY from the partners who have signed up to Home Access and then it is only for certain laptops/desktops.

All I can say is, check out all the suppliers as the differences in spec is amazing.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

The idea is simple, most kids in school live in a home where internet access is avaliable, sadly 1 million of them most from pooorer homes dont,so why should they be disadvantaged in their education:confused:

I came from a poor background it never stopped me, and I didn't have a computer.

As I have said time and time again, do not have too many children that you cannot afford to keep them in the way you wish.

I have reluctantly temporarily closed this thread because it is still going off topic despite my polite requests.

    Extra information from SingleSue

If you have a child who has a statement or the higher level of learning support without a statement (can't for the life of me remember what it is called!), your childs needs will be looked at and if specialised programmes needed, then an additional amount will be made available and the programme pre loaded. This does cut down on the choice of suppliers and increase the time it takes for the grant to come through.
