MONEY MORAL DILEMMA: Should Monica and Chandler not pay their wedding planner?

  • I don't think that they should pay, the woman was paid to do a job, if the job wasn't done proplerly, then she shouldn't be paid, simple as that.

  • I'm surprised to see so many posts wondering whose fault it is when the description of the situation clearly states that they decided not to pay because it was the wedding planner's fault.
In my opinion there is no dilemma here. They contracted the planner to do a job, she didn't do it properly and therefore shouldn't be paid. She could indeed have gone to another client, but they could also have hired a different planner who would have done the job better and even if the planner had gone with another client wouldn't she have had the same problem?
I don't hold with the idea of paying the planner for the parts that went well either. She was contracted to make the wedding go smoothly and she didn't fulfill that obligation. Even if some things went well the day was basically ruined. If the planner was let down by suppliers then she should recuperate what costs she can from them but that shouldn't have anything to do with the couple.
    Don't pay for bad service.

Definitely not pay. If you ordered flowers from a florist, or food from a restuarant and they were late or cold you would complain.

You're right, there's nothing worse than cold flowers on your special day.
  • This couple would have been better off spending the £800 on a "knees-up" at the local pub, it sounds as though they and the wedding planner (whatever one of those is supposed to be) haven't a brain cell between them.
  • Here's this week's hypothetical situation for you to cogitate on:

Should Monica and Chandler not pay their wedding planner?

Monica and Chandler have hired a wedding planner for the lump sum of £800. But their wedding day is a series of disasters, with the wrong flowers being delivered, the cake being late and the food being served cold. Monica & Chandler decide not to pay the planner as it's her fault. She says a job's a job and she's owed the money as she could've gone with another client.

    Hey :)

First of all, this doesn't mention anything about what the planner was hired to do, and if these things that went wrong were the planner's responsibilities (presumably they were!), and whether there was a contract saying what happened if something did go wrong.....

However, if I was C&M, I wouldn't pay the planner. They clearly didn't do a very good job, and the planner could at least negotiate with the suppliers to get at least some of the money back.

Maybe C&M could negotiate to make a part payment to the planner, as it's not like they couldn't have the wedding at all?

Will I use it? Is it worth it? Can I find it cheaper anywhere else?

This might not even be a debate, depending on how she advertised her service. Presumably it wasn't advertised to be as bad as that, and so she's legally bound to providing the advertised service. Similar to a "Don't get screwed" episode I saw about poor wedding photos - if the standard you receive is not the standard advertised, you can demand a refund (or not pay).
OT: I'm not sure whether that applies to pictures of McDonalds burgers.

She'd possibly argue that it's not her fault that her suppliers screw up - yes it is, because it's her job to find reliable suppliers.
