I popped into a branch this afternoon and said i wanted to cancel it, they asked if ive had a mortgage chat with them. i said no then was told the next appointment would be next week. Even telling her i have no interest going through a chat with them as im not going to take out a mortgage, she was being very jobworthy and said im not going to give you the interest until you speak to an abbey staff about it.
so ive had a chat via a call, does this count? he didnt take any details from me.
No. The terms and conditions state that if you wish to close you have to book a mortgage appointment.0 -

Hello all
Are these the same numbers you need to use if the S.O is being set up via a Santander Current Account?
Thanks0 -

Well I went into my local branch on Saturday, and was told I could not open one of these accounts!
At first the rather unhelpful assistant (Paula, Leyland branch) said that she was too busy, and at 12pm it was too close to closing time (which was 12.30pm on a Sat, despite the website saying 1pm).
Then she said they didn't do those accounts. It wasn't on the system, so I couldn't have one. (and there she tried to end the conversation, no further help e.g. '...but you could open one of these other accounts...)
I pressed further, telling her this was an in-branch account only, and that it was on their website and announced on MSE in January. She wasn't interested, but I got the savings sales line from her.
Calling the sales line, a very helpful Scottish lady told me they did indeed do the account in branch and told me to go into the branch, and let the Scottish lady speak to the rude branch lady on my mobile right away, which I did.
I handed the call over, but the rude branch lady did not look impressed. After a bit of a rollocking from the Scottish lady, she hung up, handed my mobile back to me and told me that if it wasn't on her system, I couldn't have one. End of.
Pressing further, I asked what I was meant to do, and she said to come back another time, but I couldn't have an appointment as they only do one appointment per day on a Saturday (what?!) and they were booked up in advance. Grrr....
I'm calling the branch manager tomorrow to complain. I will keep you updated.0 -
I opened one of these today. I was more fortunate than others have been - I talked to someone in 2 separate branches (London) and in both cases they knew straight away about the account. The first branch asked me to come back the next day, but I missed the appointment. In embarrassment I went to another branch in the end, and they opened the a/c right away.
Bear in mind you can't make any withdrawals without the account being closed, and there is a regular monthly deposit of £100-300, to get the advertised interest rate. I asked the guy how long this account has been running, and he told me that it was 8% interest at one point in the past (this appears to be correct, doing a web search). Hopefully the rate will rise in time.0
