Cooking a meal is counted too. However one's ability to actually cook is ignored. (it's things like safety, following instructions, etc)

Oh, I believed that to be correct... Thought I read it in one of benefits and work guides, but I could easily be wrong. Worth checking with CAB/A4U though OP :)

I think OP isn't filling the forms in correctly, a quick skim of the thread and I know that OP didn't go to uni and can't swim, neither of which are even remotely applicable to DLA. I can't swim either or drive or handle glass ware or walk on tight ropes and none of those are anything to do with wether or not I get DLA.

Get help with the form, a professional will be able to sort out what's relevant and what's not and that will help lots towards getting your application taken seriously.

I just don't know what I'm doing 'wrong' as it were. Well, we will see how this new claim goes, but I've tried to explain everything properly, and lay out how much help I need.

As you know with Fibro, every step is in severe pain, yet they didn't even put me on LRM! Argh! I'm glad you have got it though - it means there is some hope!
this kind of thing makes me so mad!
why would you think you were going wrong somewhere in an application?
if people arent awarded, it usually means that they dont qualify. ie, you arent severe enough. afterall, why do so many people get awarded first time?
Every step is not agony with Fibro so perhaps they know you are exagerating just to get the money. you might also have been observed.
i wouldnt worry too much about the blue badge as its not the end of the world without it. its not like a normal car parking place is miles away.

    Hi all,

Wow I'm surprised at all the replies, I only left my computer to have lunch! Thanks for the blue badge suggestion cyber bob. I'll try that when I apply again. Although I got a copy of the form the GP filled in and she'd ticked the right boxes. I was quite surprised she did though, because she's pretty rubbish. I tried to change doctor's surgery but no one else will take me (that's a whole other topic right there). I wish she was more supportive as it might help me.

This last DLA claim I filled in I was very detailed and did it like it was my very worse day. Like I - owe - you I think the fluctuating nature of the illness affects their decisions. They can't deal with it because you don't fit into one of their boxes.

Right I'm contacting the CAB seeing as quite a few of you have suggested. Right now, I'll except anybody's help I can get!
thats what you are failing on. You do not fill out forms on 'your worst day'. the DLA staff are not stupid and they know what the illnesses are. if you send in a form full of general exageration, they wont pass it.
CAB isnt really needed if you sit and fill the form in honestly. far more people get paid out with DLA first time without the CAB being involved than dont.

LRM is based on help needed outside due to disability - ie, safety, wandering off, panic attacks, etc. It has nothing to do with ability to physically walk.

DLA is based on needs and the diagnosis is irrelevant.
you are talking nonsense and you need to educate yourself if you intend to pass on advise to others.
    you are completely wrong.

I'm so glad my despair makes you mad. I think I'm going wrong because I do seem to meet the qualifications for DLA, but wasn't awarded it. Have you really never seen examples of people that should get benefits but for whatever reason get turned down? Many people don't get awarded first time, many have to go to tribunal.

Every one of MY steps is agony, so perhaps you are making assumptions? I am in constant pain. I'm not exaggerating.

I don't care if I was observed, then they will see me struggling.

I do get a Blue Badge and it has made an immense difference to my life. It's enabled me to not be completely housebound. If I had a choice between the DLA and the Blue Badge I would take the Blue Badge any day. Yes it IS miles away when every step is agony.

Aputsiaq, can I first ask, are you a health professional? I ask as you seem to be quite an expert on a number of illnesses/conditions (and how these would affect you) looking through your post history.

Have you any illness or disability? You seem to know a great deal about disability also, and the blue badge rules!

Just wondering. With many illnesses (as you would know obviously) there are different degrees of the illness and patients are affected with varying levels of pain and difficulties.

Yeah, that's why I get LRM - because I need supervision or guidance outside. I also know plenty of people who have been awarded DLA nad have no diagnosis. (or are in the middle of getting one) I think you need to educate yourself.

There are a number of reasons why people are turned down first time - they didn't give enough detail being one of them. It doesn't mean their needs aren't severe enough. I got rejected the first time, got CAB involved, they wrote a letter nad made phone calls on my behalf and I won.
