there seems to be more and more posts of an adult nature arriving on this site so maybe a password entry to thast post might be an idea
so that would stop the kids and others being offened by it
what do you think?

No offence intended, but this site is used to promote Martin's moneysaving work. He has the reputation of his business to consider and, while it makes sense to allow discussion and off-topic stuff to go on in order to retain users who will use and promote the main site, I can't see that this is really the right place for a password-protected adult site.
I don't mean to say this in a prudish way, but an adult site just wouldn't fit with the whole Radio 2 image would it? Not very wholesome.... though if he charged you for your password access it could potentially be money-spinning!0 -

Yes, I think you're right about what the OP meant, but currently the mods do their best to tone down the adult threads and in so doing, discourage the posting of them. If they were to create an 'adult' section then they might be seen to be encouraging these sorts of posts (even though this might in reality be an attempt at protecting the main site from unwanted adult posts).
The issue of public perception aside, how would an 'adult site' help further the main purpose of the forums and or the main boards? Whay would it be worth the investment? What would be the business case for introducing it? I'm afraid I can't see one. If you want an adult discussion site there are millions of them around..... what would be in it for Martin to create another one here?0 -
A few thoughts:
Who would decide what needs to go in the adult section? I could post what seems like a non-adult comment to me, other people disagree and arguments start.
If you create an exclusive adult only section with a password then who administers and gives out this password?
How do you vet that the person asking for the password (or giving out the password) is indeed an adult?
How do you stop the password being leaked over the internet to people so they can go and have a look at the adult posts without proving they are adults?
How far do you let the adults only section go?
The Board Guides and Forum abuse team already try to curb extreme behaviour (most of them appear to be parents and/or sensible people) and try to keep the site within acceptable guidelines - given the number of members they don't do a bad job at all IMHO. If you consider a post to be inappropriate then report it to abuse, if they agree it will vanish

I dont think its down to martin to password protect sections on the forum, its down to the parents to monitor what their children view0

Am I missing something - where are the adult posts on this site0
-
Some threads have on the discussion board and some posts in the arms which weren't not suitable for young members. But the board guides seem to have locked them or deleted them quick enough. Personally I do not think any adult content would be allowed here specially that martin strongly advocates children to be money saving too.
When I first saw the thread title I thought we had some adult threads running0 -
Sassie wrote:Scarlett do you think this site is appropriate to have young members? If you do then do you feel that parents should view every page before allowing their child to view each page?
I know parents cant watch their children 24/7, but a close monitor on what sections they are viewing is appropriate. My DD is only 5 so it dont apply, but if she was older I wouldnt let her browse DT or the arms  but the freebie section, old style, student board would be okthere hasnt been any adult stuff in there has there ??
