Electric Heating

All my heaters are on and turned up but loose all the heat during the day. must be other optiions, so many other country use electric heating as the main so we must be able to get a viable electric heating system in the uk
I have storage heaters, I accept that they are not ideal, but what heating system is?
They do however keep my 3 bed detached bungalow lovely and warm and at less cost than oil or possibly gas these days.
The secret is I believe, to have good insulation in your home, I have about a foot of roof insulation, double glazing and cavity wall insulation.
No service charges, no boiler breakdowns to worry about, my total energy bill is £95 a month throughout the year, that includes everything.
I have 3 large, 1 medium and 2 small storage heaters, that is all that I use for heating.0 -
There are few options, but I may suggest duoheat heaters (off peak and convector), this works off normal supply (needs a seperate circuit) and off peak
The new ones are fully automatic and will switch off the peak supply when the cheap rate kicks in
Had to dash earlier, but the rest is what I intended to post earlier
The important thing about storage heaters is to turn the 'boost' or 'output' dial fuly down before you go to bed. This will help keep the heat in the heater longer.
The new duoheat heaters are more fancy and have electronic sensore that are more efficientbaldly going on...0 -
Im glad your very happy with your electric storage heaters, dont seem to come across too many people on the forums that do like them. I hate the things,,.but I dont agree with you that electric storage heating is cheaper than gas.

The storage hheater i have in the living room is a dup one, and it's no better than the others. it just has a £20 fan heater bolted to the front, And these are new heaters as i replaced them all when i moved in, not cheap but at the time thought it was the best option.
At the moment I'm seriously thinking of junking them and putting in normal panel heaters or Electric rads. that why I'm looking for advise here. I had storage heaters in my previous flat, the old type and they were much better than the newer ones. I hav automatic ones as well before the onces i have now and they are completely useless turning off when they get warm halfway through the night. !! and never getting really hot0 -

I didn't ask you to agree with me, I was basing my figures on the actual price I pay and the amounts paid by people in similar size/types of properties that use Gas and Electric.
It would be impossible to quantify the exact costings, however they are very much closer than many people think these days, gas costs have risen more than electricity in recent times.0 -
You can get multiroom heat pump units so that you can run several rooms from one compressor. This obviously reduces the cost. The running costs should work out approximately the same as a gas fired central heating system.

What settings are you using? My storage rads are 20 years old and still produce heat at 10pm. Not saying you should keep them but a simple adjustment may help.
Keeping the output to number 1 until you get in may help.Know the difference between what you WANT and what you NEED. :T0
