Electric Heating

Hi,
Can anyone here offer any advise, I live in a 2 bed maisonette, Currently i have Electric Storage heaters, I am looking to change these, as there is no heating in the hallway, kitchen or bathroom and by 8pm these heaters are not providing enought heat to warm each room. So all the heat is wasted during the day when I am not in!and the bathroom and hallway are allways freezing cold!. ( the heaters are new 2 x 3.4kw and one 2kw)

Can anyone suggest a viable alternative. Really what I'm lookng for is a reasonable priced alternative, I have no gas in the property so Gas Central Heating is not an option.

I have been looking at Panel and Convertor Heaters, But want something modern and slim . I'm using a cheap 2kw heater in the evenings to warm the bedroom ( 3 outside walls so always coldest) and a Calour Gas heater in the living room.

Can anyone offer any advise on this. I don't have a fortune to spend so needs to be fairly cheap ( I will replace one room at a time) and no more uneconomical than the storage heaters. I'm on economy 7 tariff at the moment, but once i've got rid of all the storage heaters i will change to a better suited tariff.

Thanks

all electric heating is expensive. my auntie has the same problem, living in a large block of flats with no gas.
she tends to heat just the one room in winter (2 heaters) and virtually lives in there. the rest of the flat is freezing.
its just too expensive to switch all the heaters on.
    Get some gorm.

We use air source heat pumps and get up to 3kw output for 1kw of electricity. Not a cheap options at installation - the units cost about £350 each, fitted. Also you might need planning permission for them.

Trying to keep the whole house warm, in a manner similar to gas central heating, doesn't work with electric, unless you spend a fortune.

I keep my storage heaters on low, enough to keep the chill off. One 3.4kw in the lounge and a 1.7KW heater in the main bedroom, that has the big job of keeping the whole of the rest of the bungalow frost free!!

The lounge heater does a reasonable job, up to about 4pm, after which I use an oil filled electric radiator if I'm sitting.
The rest of the house I don't worry about too much, I turn on a fan heater in the bedroom for about ten minutes before I go to bed. But never worry about the bathroom.
I do work outside, which I believe makes a difference, as I find several of my friends houses hot enough to make me feel a bit ill, while they are sitting going brrr.

Exceleent, Thanks, Will have to look into this a bit more. Can you tell me how noisy these units are inside, I have plenty of outside space so not worried about that.

my first terraced house was all electric. storage rads. i hardly ever used em. much too expensive to run.
i was single though, and rarely in the house so i never bothered too much. i was going to install gas CH but never did it and i eventually sold the house as is.
my youngest brother bought it off me!

noisy - a bit like the dishwasher. It might not be what you're looking for though as you'd need one for each room.

You can get a grant for an air source heat pump - up to 30% of cost or £900 (whichever's lower) - see http://www.lowcarbonbuildings.org.uk/Grants-for-your-home
