Grant Vortex oil boiler?

Hi all
Our current Trianco boiler is 27 years old and needs replacing. Our local Plumbase recommended a Grant Vortex Eco oil boiler. Has anyone heard of this make and are they reliable? I was hoping to take advantage of the government scrappage scheme however it appears our 27 year old G rated boiler is not eligable, that figures!!! Any advice very much appreciated.

  • One of our neighbours has a Grant boiler and is happy with it and the installer, who also gave us a quote to replace our Trianco boiler, highly recommended the brand. Hearsay I know , but hope it helps......

There was a Grant oil boiler installed when we moved into our house a couple of years ago. I had no previous experience of oil so was interested when the local plumber who serviced it opined that Grants were his favourite - very easy to service and keep running, apparently.

    Hope that's some help.

Grants are one of the best if not the best Oil boilers available. I did the research and had one fitted about 4 years ago and happy with performance
  • Hi all
Thank you all very much for your replies. This has reassured me no end that we are choosing the right boiler. Just waiting for the plumber to come over and give us a quote and for him to tell us wether our trianco is suitable for scrappage scheme!!
    Thanks again
  • I too have an old Trianco oil boiler which I am planning to change under the boiler scrappage scheme. I tried looking on the link on the Energy Saving Trust site and it indicated that my model "may not" be eligible for the scrappage scheme. However, I phoned the number on the same site and the very helpful lady confirmed that my model would be eligible. I then completed the application on line and received my grant voucher within a week. (You need to provide your chosen installer's Oftec registration number in the application).

As to boiler I am trying to decide between Worcester Bosch, Grant Vortex and Firebird. Looking at one suppliers website their retail prices put the Bosch at the least expensive (£1436) and the other two level at £1526 (condensing, non-system boilers) yet my installer is quoting a higher overall price for the Worcester Bosch system. Either it is more complex to fix or he can get a better discount on the other two! The Firebird and WB come with 2 year guarantees and the Grant with 5 years so that is the direction I shall probably take.

    Hope this helps.
