Broadband - who should I switch to?

A wee bit confused by all this business, but I need to cut the costs down!

Currently on the Evening & Weekend deal (£17.50 monthly) with BT locked in to August this year. Broadband is with Orange/Wanadoo at £19.99 monthly (no lock in).

As far as I know it is a basic exchange (no LLU (!)).

Ideally I would be looking for a package but I cant change phone contract till August, but who would you recommend for Broadband as I feel I am paying over the odds looking at other rates.

  • Personally I would recommend Be, there website is
    https://www.bethere.co.uk/web/beportal/homepage

The have just three packages starting from £7.50.

I have been with them for about 2 years. There have free 0800 number but are quite fast also at responding to e-mail’s.

P.S. Don't work for them or O2 or any company linked with them, just very happy with them.

Was just coming in to recommend these guys :)
  • Just tried BE but they gave me the following message

"Sorry, but your phone line is unable to support our broadband. Please contact your telephone provider if you require further details."

    Back to the drawing board!

Start with www.samknows.com, then exchange search, see if any LLU options (under 'LLU Operator Presence). These will be the best deals.
If no LLU, have a look at Plusnet Value, whch is either £5.99 a month or £11.99 depending on your exchange. This has a 10GB cap, which may or may not be suitable.
£20 is far too much, even if you are on a Market 1 exchange with no LU.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • No LLU operator presence and

    Market 1
This exchange has BT Wholesale as the sole provider of broadband services

So looks like it could be plusnet - at least I'll get some cashback at quidco!

Yes, Plusnet Value will be £5.99 for 3 months, then £11.99 on a Mkt 1 exchange. But make sure the 10GB limit will be enough-and they do traffic shape at peak hours.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

hondomad 21, how good are BE? Thinking of using their value £7.50 package and leaving Demon whose speeds are pathetic at times, esp considering I'm paying £17.99 pm!

Basically, if Be/O2 is present at your exchange, get it, I've been with O2 for 18 months and have no regrets :)
  • I see the OP is unable to use Be, but for anyone else thinking of making the jump, I've been hugely impressed by them during my first couple of weeks on their Value service. Rock solid connection, impressive speeds even during congested periods, and the free BeBox is much better than I'd been led to believe (IIRC it's only a re-badged Speedtouch, but it works).

I moved from the wonderful and saintly Zen, purely as a money-saving measure, and I haven't investigated Be's customer support yet (Zen are legendary in this respect) but so far I have no complaints.

Broadband - who should I switch to?

Some people might think I’m nuts but Talk Talk have been very good over the last 2 years I have been with them. I signed up then for an inclusive deal :- Line rental, anytime calls except 0845 etc and Broadband (enough for me) and I spend a lot of time on the internet + a few more bonuses like there forum good if you need problems sorted out. All for about £22.50 a month, good when at the time I was paying BT over £60.00 a month for the same. I know this Deal does not exist anymore but there are deals very close to this one.
Same reason as other posters , I do not work for them just pleased with the costs and the forum for hick ups is great.
