Note about Paypal postage & none recorded delivery items

Here is something you may already know but I learnt the hard way so would like to share to ensure you know is well.
If you sell an item on ebay and use paypal as your payment method, and then decide to use either normal royal mail service or the paypal postage service which does through the royal mail, + you are not using a recorded delivery method then you are open to a chargeback without dispute.
This applies even if you use paypal's own postage printing system!
Unless you have a signature for delivery either recorded or special delivery then it is no good, proof of postage certificates you get from the postage office are pointless is well!
If the buyer says to paypal they never received the goods and you cannot provide a signature then they will be refunded straight away! Paypal do not accept proof of postage certificates as evidence of postage even through there own postage printing system! They will only accepted the tracking numbers from royal mail recorded or special deliveries! (& other couriers of course) but normal post just won't hold up, so if what you are selling is valueable and the seller is new most probably they are out to scam you so make sure you send it recorded delivery!

That's because Paypal want to see proof of delivery, not proof of postage.
You could pay for postage through Paypal, but that doesn't mean you have actually posted it does it?
Sorry you found out the hard wayTank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Yes you are right, but I believe paypal should then add a recorded delivery option to the paypal postage printer and inform sellers of this.0

Still, that doesn't mean you are going to send the item.
They could have a warning though, that if you send by normal post, that in the case of a claim, you won't be covered.
That would be too easy for them though :rolleyes:Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
And with the fact that sellers cannot post a negative to a buyer anymore, sellers have no idea which buyers run this little scam to get there money back, worst thing ebay ever do was stop sellers posting negatives!0

It's good when you are a buyer, as if you do get a bad seller, you can neg them without worrying they are going to neg you back, when you haven't done a thing wrong.
Bad as a seller though as you can get negged for anything.
I haven't sold many items since that rule came in, but touch wood, I haven't had a neg since then.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -

What proof have you that your buyers received the items if you didnt send them tracked? They could have actually got lost in the post you as the seller are responsible in getting the item to them if you can't prove it they get refunded
Recorded delivery is mainly a waste of time as a lot of the time the online tracking isn't updated so you still wont be able to prove delivery
You do know you can claim for a loss up to £39 with the COP? So you shouldnt be out of pocket for cheaper items
You can buy RD via paypal but you still have to go to the post office to get a tracking number0 -
As a buyer I am 100% behind the idea that unless seller can prove i have my goods then i get a refund, it seems such a simple idea to me. As a seller I am also 100% happy with that as I cna protect myelf against loss either by using a certificate of postage for items up to £39 or sending tracked and insured for items over that.
I think though that paypal should make their warning on their postagepage much larger, maybe red neon lights reminding people that unless you get stamped proof of posting from a PO you have no claim against the RM, so many people seem to misunderstand how it works.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I'd just like to endorse what other's have said. If you get a charge back claiming non-receipt, simply use the proof of posting that prints out after your PayPal postage label to claim from RM [or the one you get from the Post Office if buying a normal stamp]. I like to think that if RM get lots of claims from the same delivery address they'd do something about it - not sure what, though!
I must admit that I posted quite a few items before Xmas straight into the post box because I didn't have the time to queue for 45 minutes to get the POP stamped. Just decided to bear the risk.
I always offer Recorded as an option and, as far as I'm currently aware, the only loss over Xmas has been a Recorded package which RM continue to describe as "we have your item". At least it proves the seller is honest! I always leave feedback to indicate the buyer reported non-receipt and that I refunded - something like "Understanding buyer - goods failed to arrive so refunded in full. " Ironically, this particular buyer paid by cheque.
I'm awaiting the outcome of the claim. The goods sold for £50, so it'll be interesting (!) to see if I get the full £39.0
