Calling all Landlords - it's time to rid of the devilish letting agents.
I am currently writing an article on how awful and pointless letting agents really are and why we put up with it!
I would really appreciate your comments - i need the whole truth and nothing but the truth! Don't hold back!

How ridiculous and one-sided. Press jumping on a bandwagon and trying to 'prove' a story!
As in all walks of life there are good and bad letting agents. Some serve an excellent purpose, some are useless.
Trying to make them ALL out to be "awful and pointless " is absurd.0 -
what exactly is 'awful' about them?Mortgage free I: 8th December 2009!

Then along comes an article "All Landlords are Rubbish, lets do Without".Act in haste, repent at leisure.

Let's face it, landlords would be a whole lot better off if we could get rid of all tenants - who are of course, without exception, awful.0

There okay if you are too lazy to do it yourself, personally i wouldnt touch one.0

I think an arla letting agent would be good for an introduction or even a managed let for amateur landlords, the problem is that some letting agents are untrained halfwits.Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

With renting that is the problem the tenants, if you think a agent can get better tenants than yourself then use them, but if you can find decent tenants yourself then fair enough.
Bottom line if you have bad tenants it comes back to the landlord whether you have found the tenants or a agent as.
Theres loads if post's about nightmare tenants, what you must remember this is the minority, most tenants want to live in a nice area/house, so the chance of you getting a bad tenant if you do all the correct checks yourself, exactly what a agent is supposed to do you should be okay.
My mate who rents out has a brother inlaw he was a bad tenant, but now he cant get anywhere to rent and he has to pay months in advance to get a place and pay top wack for !!!!!! holes and the landlord dont care because hes been paid in advance, who wants to live like that?0 -
My problem with letting agents is that they are not interested in finding the right tenant - they will take the first person that is willing to through a lot of cash at them - the amount they charge for a print out of a tenancy agreement and for credit checks is 600% of the cost to them! In such a bouyant rental market they have no concern for helping tenants find a nice home - i have had numerous agents that have screwed us over with additional charges and not maintaining the property - they are certainly not earning their money! They never call back, never replay to emails and this is every single letting agency that i have used in the exeter area (being approx 20) i have yet to find one that takes time on a viewing to ask questions about your life in order to see if you are suitable!
I do understand that there are a lot of bad tenants around - i fully accept this and won't dispute. However with so many average, hardworking families being thrown into rented accommodation and would really look after a home, it's hardly fair for letting agents to srew them for as much as they can as their main priority!Declutter 2020 - 267/2020 :j

But as a T why should the agent be interested in you? They are not your agent!0

If Landlords didn't want tenants they shouldn't have brought buy to let properties in the first place - then perhaps prices wouldn't have esculated to the extent that they are now and i wouldn't need to to rent as i would be able to afford to buy!Declutter 2020 - 267/2020 :j
