Orange - moving from Contract to PAYG

Hi
Tomorrow, when my contract ends, I am moving my BlackBerry from Orange Contract to Orange PAYG on the same number.
I received a PAYG SIM card from Orange a few weeks ago and I rang them today to discuss the details.
Apparently I actually have to phone them tomorrow to 'register' the SIM card, and I also can't use the top-up card they sent me until I register. I'm not even sure the link between the SIM and top-up cards is actually present yet.
Can this be right? My understanding was I would just need to plug in the PAYG SIM tomorrow and it would just work. I had also assumed I could put credit on the top up card today.
I wonder what the purpose of 'registering' tomorrow is supposed to be? To give them all my relevant details, which they obviously already have? Ditto to tell them my existing (Contact) mobile number?
Perhaps the purpose of the call is so I can invite them to give me the opportunity to sell me something - a new contract perhaps? Or am I being cynical?
Thanks

As your contract ends tomorrow they can't transfer your number over until then. You can't have 2 sims with the same number live even if one's on contract and the others on payg.
You need to call so they can go through the security setup on the new sim (passwords etcs) and the payg system to totally separate to the contract system. You also can't top up a number that's not live.0 -
Thanks, I wonder if this means my contract SIM will keep working all day tomorrow if necessary? Hope it doesn't stop working at midnight tonight!0
