  • you can try out various freelance sites and work at home. such sites basically require you to make an onine portfolio and then you bid on projects according to your specifications. elance.com is a great one to start with!

i am a "normal" person, with much less education and qualifications than you have.

I started off by using agencies like Adecco, they did me really well to start with and if it hadnt been for the jobs that they got for me, i wouldnt be doing the job i do now. Admittedly, I have worked very hard to get where I am now, and its taken a good many years, but you should try, and persist with the agencies.

Do you drive? Would you take a driving job? Bus or coach driver? If the company want you, they will sort you out with the training necessary to get you your licence.

Your local hospital? They may well have a clerical bank you could work for, which is like an in-house agency. They also will have a transport department.

    Your local council?

Local police? there are millions more admin jobs than you would think, and I know that here, they tend to use outside agencies.

Dont just send your CV to the agencies. Physically take it there and get them to register you there and then. Make a good impression on them and they will remember you.

    Good luck!

  • at least your "Student loan :£11,000" will get written off soon as you've been unable to get a 15k+ job :)

Do they write the loans off if you can't get a job earning more than £15,000?

Eventually, but they keep adding interest all the time it's not fully paid off.

I'm really fuzzy on this, but I'm pretty sure it happens when you're 60. Then again, it may be 55, or even 65...:o

    Either way, it's age-related.

The OP is exaggerating his debt somewhat. I earn 18k (not a whopping amount, admittedly), and I pay £10 per month back to the SLC, automatically deducted from my pre-tax monthly salary. They deduct 9% of everything you earn over 15k from your annual gross salary. I'll probably never pay mine off, as the repayments don't keep up with the interest added - and that which was added for the 3 years after uni during which I earned under 15k - but £10pm is a small price to pay for the best 3 years of my life :rotfl:

It's the perfect loan, it only deducts when you earn a minimum amount, the repayments are miniscule, the interest is low, and if you find yourself out of work, you stop paying, without consequence.

I borrowed a considerable sum of £12500, and am considered lucky, considering some undergraduates now borrow around 20k, thanks to means-tested fee payments going out the window, and thanks to top-up fees doubling the cost of courses.
    £1 / 50p 2011 holiday flight + hotel expenses = £98.50600

HSBC 8% 12mth regular savings = £80 out of a maximum remaining allowance of £2500

    "3 months' salary" reserve = £00 / £3600
