Oh I wondered how long it would take for you to come along! Hello y'old !!!!!! How are you today?
No, between looking for work, I have taught myself three programming languages! (that's more than I learned in my four years training at university btw) but thanks for waiting for my response to your question before casting judgement! :rotfl:0 -

Not really surprising you're still unemployed!
And do know that persons personal circumstances? I guess not, so why make judgmental comments?
Maybe they were ill or homeless for part of the time.
You are aware that some parts of the country have high unemployment rates in the good times, let alone in the bad times.
For some people a life on benefits isn't a choice its a fact of life.
I know when I was unemployed it was difficult to get back in to work, not because I was lazy and bone idle, because there was a lack of jobs.
Maybe you should think of these things before passing judgment on peoples lives.
Just think it could be you in that position soon, nothing lasts forever.0 -
Don't worry, every post I have made in this section of the MSE forums has had pleanty of comments like his. Oldernotwiser is one of a few here who lurk these boards just waiting to put the boot into people. It's quite sad really.0

If you are looking for a job have you tried security? If you have been unemployed for two years you should get your training to get your SIA licence paid for by the government. As long as you are prepared to work shifts, dont have a criminal record, you can get a licence, and will almost certainly get a job, as the churn rate in security is relatively high.

You should register with an agency asap.
If you're computer literate and presentable, you'll have a steady income."This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0 -
If you spend 8 hours a day looking for work and applying for jobs, and get nowhere, then you're doing something very wrong. If you're not spending 8 hours a day looking for jobs, then you need to be. I live in London, so there are a fair few 'crappy' jobs around and Gumtree is usually the place to find them, so my suggestion would be to apply for everything on there. Don't let yourself be picky.0

dharm999,
Good idea, I'll look into that too thanks.
LondonDiva,
I have tried agency's a few times in the past and only one ever got back to me, even then I got a few days and that was it.
Wings of Ambition,
There are not enough jobs around here for 8 hours a day every day! If there were I would be! I'm not picky in the slightest, but I seem to have jack crap luck!I've just spend 5 hours looking and not found a single job I am able to apply for!

Have you not thought about trying to start your own business? You certainly seem to have the computer skills and people who can code well certainly seem to be in demand. I'm sure there must be places you can get advice about how to do it. You could probably work from home too.0 -
Have you checked if your local police or fire forces are recruiting, planning to recruit? Do you have a hospital nearby - ambulance technician or nursing training ? Do universities need people with your qualifications as support staff ?
Would you be able to re-locate to an area with more job potential ? I also think you should pursue voluntary work and "pin down" the job centre as to what you can and cannot do to ensure continued payment of your benefits.
Good luck
Linda
PS what about the forces ? not front line combat but they might need IT qualified personnel for UK/BFPO bases ?0 -
There might just be a slight snag to that last suggestion - OP might be a pacifist.
Visions of sitting there unemployed bang next to loads of "military" -oriented jobs. To me that would mean "water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink" - so OP may be the same in that respect.0
