Sorry i havent posted back in ages been on hols and got too frustrated to bother with pc.
dusted it down again and have removed and replaced battery.
We are now gettting somewhere, -
On boot i get that familiar emachines logo and then wait for it.... a bios summary screen showing all the specs (will try to post a picture soon) it then tells me to press any key which i have done - every key on the k/b in fact to no avail - stuck again, But at leats i am making progress.
Any ideas:rotfl: :j :T :bdaycake: :xmastree: :bdaycake: :T :j :rotfl:0 -

*Note it says i have no HDD's when in fact i have a 10gb and 4 gb (i think) - 20gb was used for better purposes, and it says there is a 31/2" disc drive - errr no there isnt! Oh and when it says no ps2 mouse i dont have one handy so i coulnt plug one in.:rotfl: :j :T :bdaycake: :xmastree: :bdaycake: :T :j :rotfl:0 -
Try another IDE cable Or and other power cables for the HD's.
Do you need to manualy set up the HD's in the Bios before they're recognised? I dont know how old it is but we had to do that on an old one.0 -
If the bios isnt detecting a hard drive and you say there are 2 plugged in unplug one of them from the ide (ribbon) cable and then see what the bios detects. unplug that drive an reconnect the other and again see what the bios detects. the idea behind this is to find out how the drives are configured they need to be master and a slave you cant have 2 master or 2 slave on the same ide cable.
If you know whihc drive has windows ect installed then plug that drive in onits own boot it up and see what happens.
BTW
The bios doesnt detect floppy drives you tell it what it has connected you need ot turn the floppy off if your not having one intalled, or windows will display on in my computer

I have stripped the pc to all but neccesry components now - Mobo, proc, hdd and dvd drive. And guess what i can get into the windows or ubuntu set up screen but when i am required to press k/b keys nothing happens although the scroll lock light on the k/b is active obviously showing the k/b is working ( i havetried 2 k/bs and the same happens. The k/b is ersponsive within 1 -2 minute sof boot as i can enter the bios , move up and down in it then the pc feezes and is unresponsve.
Whats goin on??!?!?!?!
