this thread will probably be pulled soon because of the forum rules on giving medical advice.

i would take him back to the doctors as a matter of urgency - 2 weeks is a very long time for this type of problem.

if you have any immediate concerns, you could try phoning NHS Direct on 0845 46 47. they are very good in my experience.

hope your lad gets better soon

Not medical advice, just tips/hints from other parents.

Stool sample returns this week, were moving abroad friday, returning in 3 years.

Wanted this fixed, sooner than later.

As long as he is fine in himseld I would not worry too much, easier said than done though I know! As long as he is drinking plenty and weeing as normal he is not likely to be dehydrated. As others have said you could try cutting back on the dairy for a little while, because sometimes a viral illness can give them a temporary dairy intolerance. If it is a stomach bug unfortunately it just has to run it's course, but you will have to wait for the sample results for that. The other thing you could try is to give him dioralyte after he has had an episode of diarrohea as this can replace the salts lost through diarrhoea. But again as others have said, if you are concerned it is worth popping him back to the GP, only they can give you a definitive answer

The issue is that that doctor is waiting on the stool sample, then we fly away at the weekend.

New doctor, may blame it on stomach bug from different water etc.

    See what comes of it..

    Hello OP,

My first thought is, Get back to your GP and tell them you are really concerned.
Bearing in mind that you're waiting for the results from the sample, some general tips:

    1. Look out for signs of dehydration - mouth/lips appear dry, skin on tummy is less elastic than you would normally expect, hands/feet look blotchy and a bit blue, child is lethargic...if you aren't happy, ring NHS Direct.

    2. Limit intake of dairy and fruit juices, as mentioned above.

    3. Encourage eating light meals including bland foods like toast, baked potato, freshly boiled rice.

    4. If your son will eat it, an excellent thing to help the body cope with diarrhoea is live yoghurt. Any kind will do - it doesn't have to be natural, can be fruit flavoured.

My mum was told this when I was little by our Indian doctor and I remember thinking it was a daft idea as yoghurt is runny (!!) but it is now well known that the probiotics in live yoghurt can be very beneficial.

Try him with a small serving two or three times a day. This is the only exception to the "limit intake of dairy" rule.

If you are in doubt for a minute, please just call NHS Direct - we forget that diarrhoea can be really dangerous.

    HTH

Is he getting sore with all the dirty nappies? If you're not happy then why not speak to your HV? They might be able to help.

I'm sorry but this thread does breach the medical advice rule - you've sought the advice of your GP - if in doubt call them again or call NHS direct - they - unlike us - are medical professionals :)
