Is dealer price negotiable with scrappage?

Friend is looking at a new car with scrappage - Kia dealer said price is non negotiable as it's being bought with scrappage scheme.

Is he giving a line or will other Kia dealers undercut the local dealer to get the sale?

  • Always worth haggling with them - could be just a line to nip any haggling in the bud but who knows? Try your luck.

Could you get more than £1000 discount off the list price without a trade in?

The dealer is giving £1000 towards the scrappage deal.

If you could then there might be scope for haggling.

However, I suspect Kia, like Hyundai, have been overwhelmed by scrappage aided purchases and so will be reluctant to haggle further.

Which Kia are you thinking of buying?
  • Best tip
Go into them for the best price for a car without the scrappage sorting your own finance out
When they give you the price back only then let them know scrappage is involved you will then still be entitled to the 1k government deduction.as they will have included all discounts on their side
I also spoke to different franchised dealers with the same car telling them I was talking to other dealers and whoever gave me the best price would get the sale over £2.1k between prices on a Renault highest to lowest cost same model colour specification
    It worked for me

There is a significant difference between buying a Kia and a Renault, people actually want to buy Kia's, there are waiting lists on many models.

So sorry I thought this question was about the scrappage scheme and trying to offer a helping reply to people who posted a question not to air personal views on one manufacturer to another
Unlike you I did not express a personal opinion or indeed a reply that has no relevance to the question.
I suggest you get your mummy to give you a lift to school now so your are not late in her new Kia

The seller, of anything, has the right to say "the price is not negotiable".
Usually done when the seller is sure that he can achieve the price asked. I.e. there is a strong demand for the thing.

with the scrappage scheme there isnt any reason for a dealer to try and get your business. the cars on scrappage dont count towards target, so theres no financial gain in it for them

you can play all the games, of not mentioning scrap until you are ready to sign on the dotted line, but all dealers quotes, are always based on what info you have them at the time of enquiry. if someone then at the last minute says, actually i think im gonna use my car under the scrappage scheme, then the dealer will say ok, lets work your new figures out then, based on that scenario
