Applying using parents address

Hi,

I've just been rejected for the Tesco 0% credit card.

My guess is it's because I've only been at my rented property for 9 months.

Using the credit-worthiness test on MoneyExtra seemed to confirm this:

With my current address, the only card it thought I would get had a 39% interest rate. However, using my parents address - where my bank post went throughout uni - I was offered a range of 0% cards.

The question now is, should I just apply using their address - as I am able to receive post here, it shouldn't be a problem at my end. My only concern is being found out through the electrol register or similar.

  • Have you asked your parents whether they would have any objection?

Are you still on their electoral register?

If so you could go for it and ask them to change your address a week or two after you get a card
No doubt some will criticise this as "fraud" but there you go - there's always someone on here waiting to have a go

  • Did Tesco not ask for a previous address?
I would take any 'advice' from a 3rd party site with a huge pinch of salt - only Tesco finance can tell you why you were actually turned down.

I couldnt think of a single reason why Halifax turned me down for a cc.

I have banked with them for 30 years plus, £1500 goes into my account every every month, they have nearly £50k in ISAs for me and my OH. We own our own house, no debts whatsoever.

I couldnt be bothered going down the road in giving bank details etc for a credit report so didnt bother. I'll stick with my old cc and move my ISA's in April. Their loss.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

That doesn't mean you'd be successful if you applied, unfortunately. When it comes to cc recommendations, don't forget they're on lead commissions. It's in their interest to persuade users to apply for credit cards.

The move won't have helped, certainly. Are you on the electoral roll at your current address or your parents' home? Where does the rest of your credit history (eg. current account, other credit cards, catalogues etc.) 'live'?
People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.

Yes as Upsy Daisy says what is wrong with a little fraud if you benefit from it. What about a bit of shoplifting too.

That will show them who is BOS

Hang on a minute, don't you think it's doing the guy a useful service to advise him against fraud?
If you want to go to prison, lose your job etc. then go right ahead.
I would not advice lying and committing fraud.

If you want to use your parents address as a correspondance address then thta's fine, but telling them you live their is fraud and you could get into big trouble.

Are you aware that if you had a fraud conviction then you'd find it hard to get a job, get insurance or get credit?

Not wanting to have a go, but wanting to make sure you understand the consequences of this action and don't take it too likely.

If you've registered on the electoral roll at you new address, then they won't need Sherlock Holmes to work out where you actually live.

You haven't mentioned your job or other credit commitments so that might be why you were declined and nothing to do with your job.
