I have the internet security 2009 with malware etc...0 -
Yes and No. Kaspersky I think protects against all form of attacks, but Malware / Spyware aren't really viruses, sometimes they behave like them, but from what I can see the spyware you have are those stupid toolbars you can get in Internet Explorer and Custom "Search engines". I also prefer Avast for antivirus but that's just me
Anyway, if you run Spybot S&D with all it's updates, you'll find about 99% of that will be cleaned.
It's worth doing anyway as it will be slowing your computer down
I dont know about avast but will look when ths one runs out. The it man at hubbys work recommended Kaspersky.
Will run the spybot thing now anyway.
Is there anything in the log I should worry about?
Also back to my original post - do I have a virus?0 -
Each to their own, I just prefer Avast as an antivirus and spybot for antispyware. My PC is clean as a whistle and I surf some really plagued sites. It's just down to being aware of what you surf.I dont know about avast but will look when ths one runs out. The it man at hubbys work recommended Kaspersky. Will run the spybot thing now anyway.
The log file, nothing to worry about as such that it's an issue, but I WOULD recommend cleaning it with Spybot because Malware is worse than spyware programs as some can sniff out your bank details etcIs there anything in the log I should worry about?

Re : Virus - no, not from what I can see, but those "Ask" toolbars and "Mywebsearch" are pains in the !!! (pardon my french) and behave like trojans going through backdoors, the virus aspect is because they are attaching themselves to .DLL (System Files) so they're behaviour is iffy
If I was you I'd run a full scan with Spybot and delete everything it finds, then run another full scan. Then run malware bytes.
Once it finds everything clean, run an update on Kaspersky and should be hunky doryOwner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

The virustotal scan throws the file at lots of virus scanners, if the result was 0, then it's probably a false positive.
The things malwarebytes found have been dealt with, they are adware rather than viruses.
Kaspersky is one of the best.!!

Thanks Lil306 and Closed - I feel much better now! I was panicking that all my work would be infected.
Running the spybot thingy now - then later will try to encrypt the internet connection.
Two questions :
1) should I not use toolbars?
2) what do you mean by be aware of what you surf?
Thanks so much for your time.0 -
Download HijackThis
- full scan, don't fix anything, just post the log 0 -
Toolbars are not needed for safe internet browsing. User awareness isThanks Lil306 and Closed - I feel much better now! I was panicking that all my work would be infected.

The toolbars just have crap, the most common ones are those Smilies and the Ask Toolbar. The problem with them is that your PC has a lot of rubbish with them and additionally it can produce a lot of annoying pop ups. As you trust the signers for the 'DLL files it can then proceed to download more without your permission
As for being aware, don't go to dodgy sites, don't install anything which says you must download this to view this site etc... just be super paranoid
