what the leaflet page 5 says is:-

    "Pay £100 into your account
to activate it and receive your Visa debit card and PIN.
Your account must have £100 in it for at least 24 hours before we can
send you your Visa debit card. You can make the payment by cash or cheque in
one of our branches or by transferring the funds from another account with us."
It doesn't say you cannot transfer from an external account.
Experience of myself and others posting here is that funds paid from external sources will serve to activate the account. Usually the payment disappears for for a day or two then reappears.
Which ties up with what you were told below
As for my own £100, apparently it would have just disappeared until the system recognised the authenticity.

Im glad other people have had the same problem, it goes someway to put my mind at rest but it still isnt there!

If I did this to one of my customers I dont think they would remain a customer for very long,

Another phone call today to log a complaint.

I doesn't say you CAN and the point of my post was to let the OP know what I had to do to resolve it. If it does eventually reappear then great. In my own case my funds appeared after 4 days, and after 8 days the account was still not activated. I guess what is happening here is that Halifax are carrying out some background manual transfer (a bit hit and miss) where new accounts receive funds from external means. It could be that in mine and the OPs case this didn't happen. Going into the branch resolved it.
