It started with a single strip of bad artifacts down the left hand side of the screen. I then got a blue screen with a error I don't remember. On reboot the whole screen is fuzzy and full of artifacts. I tried using an external monitor but the results where even worse.

If it does it in safe mode, it sounds like nvidia gpu overheating, some manufacturers have issued a recall or extended warranty for the nvidia overheat problems.
