Check http://www.honestjohn.co.uk clik Car By Car Breakdown for all good AND bad on every model.

& I bought a Brava SX 72000 miles 1.6 Y plate for a customer a year back, shade over £1200 pretty straight, reasonably well looked after & it's been fine.

I still think Bravo in Broom Yellow look smart, too!!

You wont get any other Y-reg 1.6 car in that category for under £2000 .... Bravas are great used bargains .... not sure what others think, but I think the Fiat image is quite trendy and charactterful. must be the ferrari/lancia links!! Unlike the Hondas which were mentioned earlier. yes, they are reliable and economical but they're about as trendy as a doormat!

Negotiating is a fine art and it all depends on how much you want the car.

My old man always gives a car a real good looking over, jacks the car up, takes wheels off etc & checks everything, with the sellers permission. Seller will usually enquire if he wants to take the car for a test drive, my old man replies 'as long as it on the understanding that what you are asking for it & what I think its worth are very different. If you prepared to negotiate, I'll take ir for test drive.' They will either say, no negotiation, willing to drop by £xxx or open to negotiation. Straight away he knows what he is dealing with. When he starts to negotiate it is almost painful to watch, he starts really low, works slightly higher & then shuts up.

The best deal he ever did, in my opinion, was on a Maserati Bi-turbo (theres a car for interesting electrics), guy was asking £8K, my old man started at £3k, went upto £3300, actually placed the folding on the bonnet & took a step back. Five minutes later it was his.

His form of negotiating won't work for everyone, he's prepared to walk away if he can't get the deal he wants.
