N900 vs HD2 vs Nexus 1

Hi All

Ok - in a quandry. Looking for a decent smartphone and wont have a iphone. The ones on my list are N900, HD2 or the new Google Nexus 1.

Now, as I can put a sim only on a interest free credit card I am trying to look at all the options and basing them over 12 months.

Sim only contract, posisbly with T-esco mobile as you can get unlimited data for £2 a month on a £10 a month topup.

Anyway - back to phone.

N900 - expensive- £500 cheapest sim free as cannot find any Nokia promo codes. If I could get it down to £400, I'd jump at the chance.

Hd2 - sim only, I can get still from o2 for about £377 according to the threads on avforums. You need to dial 202 from a O2 handset.

Nexus 1 - works out approx £370 and there is a question mark on how much you will be hit for tax. Currently I think its working out like £60 but as no one has had that part of the bill from DHL - no one knows.

I am not one to follow the herd hence why the Nexus is third on my list. N900 prefer as its open source, has built in hdd, good camera and a loyal Maemo community. Same with HD2, even though its running Windows Mobile, again there is a loyal community constantly creating ROMS. Plus WM7 is soon to be available. Nexus 1 - speaks for itself google phone with all the apps but is hackable but has the apps the other 2 dont.

Thoughts or if anyone knows how I can get the phones cheaper, let me know.

Well... can't comment for "following the herd" as I don't personally know anyone with a Nexus One... or one on order.

I can say that mine is now tracked as in the UK and expect the customs bill in a couple of days, so I will be able to give the total cost.

That's about £350. Seems like a very good deal to me.
  • Plus the tax, which i think will be £60 based on other replies on xda forum.

  • From the reports on xda forum, dhl bill you separately for tax. If they did not, cracking price.

My laptop is a mobile computer. My sub note is a very mobile (almost) computer.

My nexus one is a toy. So far it's fun, although camera is not all that (yet to take any outside pictures, what with it being dark & cold and all!)

HTC HD 2 owner ere, does everything and more, looked at Nokia N900 but to many downfalls. Once installed Bstweaks even the onscreen keyboard is as good as standard keyboard, full version of Tomtom sat nav, excellent web broswer with pinch zoom, good quality camera, facebook inter graded into contacts and thats without mentione how stunning the screen is, plays full res xvids so n need to reencode due to 1Ghz processor.

Only thing i can say is alarm is crap, install G Alarm and solves and could do wit more apps! Even can be used as wifi router from mobile web connection!
