Why does battery cause this problem ?

Only pointer is to remove it when not in use, to stop it trickle charging, not ideal but little else you can do.
Maybe you'll be ready for a Windows 8 machine, when the next battery fails?
If you intend to use it on battery, backup with imaging software, because if it dies without windows being shutdown properly, windows could become corrupted, and not startup.!!
