Why does battery cause this problem ?

Today, my Acer 3000 laptop decided to quickly grind to a stop ... couldn't get curser pointer to move or get the task manager to open.
Switched PC off using the button, took the battery out switched back on again without the battery attached and after allowing it to do the check disc function everything back to normal again.
Shut PC down, put battery in, re-started and quickly grinded to a halt again in 30 seconds or less after selecting my account
Is this just a faulty battery or something else ?

find the battery icon, then microsoft acpi control method, disable, reinsert battery, should work ok, but you will no longer have the battery monitor icon, bottom right.
The battery has had it, might work for a while without mains, you can still use it plugged into the machine, if you disable the software!!

OK .. found it using your link .....
What will this change on the computer ? Why did you think of this ?
(I am no expert but very interested) :0)
Will this stop me using the battery completely ?0 -
if you click on the battery, do you get any more choices.
Did it work?
All it does is disables the software managing the battery status, the battery may still work for a while, but you won't be able to see how long you have left before the battery runs out, the long term solution is a new battery.!!

Thanks for all your help .... Battery was next to useless ... full charge lasted about 13 mins I think ... I'll look around for a new battery I think ....
How long should these batteries last ?
Just going to ut battery back in now ....0 -
1.5-2.5 years, depends on how you use it, if you use it plugged into the mains most of the time, leaving the battery out will prolong it's life.!!
