Passport Questions - Merged

Hi.
I am currently a German citizen, but would like to get dual British/ German. Anyone know the costs/ difficulty/ routes to getting British nationality.
I have lived here 36 years, and never upset the government, so eligibility shouldn't be an issue.

    Hi

My 5 year old sons passport runs out in December and we are going to France end of September, is it true that it has to be valid for another 6 months at time of travel?

You can renew your passport upto 9 months prior to it expiring, and if you do that you will be credited on your new passport with the remainder, in whole months, of the time left on your current passport.

You only need 6 months left on your passport if your going outside the EU and/or you need a visa.

Not really any use whatsoever but they seem to give them out like sweeties so I suspect it should be easy for you as you have lived here for soo long.

I guess I could always chop my hand off, poke my eye out, and call for the downfall of western civilisation in the streets of north London.
Might help me get housing benefit too.

Quick question, would I be able to use cheesyjet to fly to Switzerland without a passport? Sounds like a silly question I know but can I not travel within Europe with photographic ID? i.e. driving license?

I could be wrong but I think you still need a passport for when you go through immigation to effectively prove you are an EU citizen.

The UK (and Switzerland I think as well) is not part of the Schegan Convention of countries, where it is ok to travel with an official photo ID. As there are not official photo ID cards in the UK, you will probably need your passport.
