I want to give my brother our Sky HD box - I know he can ring and pay £10 to upgrade to Sky without entering a contract. If the box then breaks and he wants to do a deal with Sky for a HD box and 12 month subscription will he be able to do it or will they say he's an existing HD customer? TIA for any help x

  • I'm not sure what you mean by pay £10 to upgrade to Sky.

The box can be used with no card and no sub, though obviously he won't get any of the recording facilities.

For £10/month he'll be able to use the recording facilities of the box. He'll get a card with the Free to Air/View channels.

The minimum sub is £17.50 (or is it £18.50 now?). If he wants the HD channels he'll have to add another £10/month.

BBC HD is free without a sub though.

Sorry I forgot to mention that he already is a Sky+ subscriber so he would just upgrade to HD for an extra £10 per month. (I was in a hurry before sorry)
  • As he won't have had a subsidised box from Sky, I don't see why that should stop them offering a discounted box if/when he needs it.

Unless someone else has done the same though, I couldn't say for sure.

Unless it's changed in the last few months Sky only offer 12 month subs for HD. The only way I got around this was buying a package from Tesco that had a 4 month free trial and no contract. That was about £195 inc. the HD Box.
