Taking 18month on holiday advice

Hello, I do hope Ive posted in the correct place.
I am going on holiday to scotland in a few weeks time with my family, my son is 18 months old and is at the age where he needs constant stimulation, I have lots of lovely days planned, but I was wondering what toys/ activitys to take with me incase he gets bored and for when we are in and around the caravan. What would you suggest are 'essential' items and any reccomendations for games and activitys for children of that age.

So far Ive come up with:
1. ball
lol I would love someone elses thoughts on this

I was looking at the water pads you mention, Im sure a saw a thomas the tank one where you could draw a track and the train follows.
He is my first so I am new to this  and I just want to keep thinking of new and stimulating things.
  • It isn't that long ago my son was 18 months, so I'm trying to dig back in my memory for what stimulated him.

When I went on holiday I tried to take things that folded up small for luggage purposes.

A fold up toy buggy, he used to walk and walk with this everywhere, only £5 in elc and is great to wear them out.

A few puzzles, the peg type

Finger puppets are great, I got mine on ebay for £5

Washable crayons and backs of junk mail to colour in

    Favourite bed toys

Apart from that I would say keep the rest of the toys at home, the caravan will be enough stimulation in itself, as it will be a completely new environment, and you will be bound to go places so I wouldn't worry too much.

Although in terms of car journeys, lots of raisins, organix goodie bars and a bag of small books to keep passing back to him ready for him to look at for two seconds and throw on the floor!

Your Post really made me smile Counting_Pennies, He has a toy lawnmower that he just loves to push around the garden! Would never have thought of that. He absolutely loves raisins, they will definately be on the snack list :p
We are holidaying on the west coast and its goint to be a 3.5 hour journey, so I want to plan lots of stops as he has never travelled for that long before, so car entertainment and snacks are a must!

Good in-car entertainment that my LO (15 months) loves is the Crayola Color (sic) Wonder pens. They are special felt pens that have clear ink in them so they can't colour anything except the special paper tha pens come with.

It's quite expensive (I paid about 8 euros in Ireland), but great for keeping in the car so he won't get bored.

My middle child is 18 mths old and we are going away in 2 weeks so planning the same things. My eldest is 4 so he does most of the entertaining mind! We went to legoland last month and stayed 2 nights in a hotel - we didnt take enough. He got very bored - every toy lasted 2 minutes, yet at home he plays with the same toy 24/7! Im planning on taking some things he hasnt played with before - something new to get his teeth in to.
Will be watching this thread with interest! HAve a good break!

A friend of mine was given it for her children and she said she would prefer the normal aquadraw that has stencils becasue the thomas one seems to be a one trick pony (or train!) My little one likes to use his big brothers stencils so makes sense to me!

I saw finger puppets in IKEA on Sunday for a maximum of £2, just in the children's section if you've got a giant yellow and blue shed near you?
    Waddle you do eh?

Crayola Colour Wonder - Kept my little one busy on the plane, great for when you are eating out too. Asda do a small Pad with 3 Pens and Tescos do a bigger one with 5 pens and pencil case. I also took a play camera and phone from boots, mini etasetch thing on a keyring from asda, a couple of small chunky plastic cars, a teletubbies sound book and a couple of mini hard books and of couse snuggle chum (Teddy with blanket inside of legs he come's every where. I packed the toys for the flight in a small kiddies ruck sack and put this inside mine so once onboard we could just let her get out whaever she wanted. At the end of the day toddlers are happy with a envelope and a biro and a small ball to play catch, its just us parents that end up like a pack horse cos we've took everything but the the kitchen sink.

Hope you have a nice holiday!

PS I always take some parcel tape and string on holiday as you can use it to child proof cupboards etc
