If this is your first contract, i would be 1/2 tempted to buy directly from the operator like orange/t-mobile etc for an easier ride. http://shop.orange.co.uk/

3rd party sites like the one you linked have deals like free line rental, free connection etc. However these are usually paid in 2-6 chunks of cash over the term of the contract and under strict conditions, thus by giving back £300 over 24 months, they can bring down the cost of line rental i.e. from 30 to 20. You pay 30 a month, but at the end of 24 months you get 300 in cashback so the price is effectivilty lower.

It is worth noting cashback is not guaranteed so if you cannot afford the line rental normally, do not take it out. You may well fail some terms or the company goes bust, but you will still have to pay for the contract and not get any cashback/gifts. These companies make bigger profits from customers that fail to claim cashback successfully.

If you do want to go down this route, try sites like dail a phone and phones4u, which offer physical gifts like a games console, or automatic cashback. These deals are more reliable.

Also, only buy a contract after getting a PAYG sim for your area. So you can check you have good signal first before signing any contracts!! If you sign up and have no signal it is difficult to cancel, and after 14 days damn near impossible. And could be paying for a service you can't use. If you are happy with your PAYG operator consider taking a contract with them.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies

Now that's an idea I've not thought of before (bit late for me like) - but will keep it in mind - especially as I had to cancel a contract a year ago due to lack of signal (fortunately I got round that as I was miss-sold the contract) Thanks
