Storage heaters

My Mum has recently moved into a warden controlled flat and no one has any operating instructions for the storage heaters. The only name I can find on the controls and actual heating units is 'Zarvik' but I cannot find any contact details for them on the net.

Could anyone help with this please as my Mum's flat is either boiling hot or chilly.

Many thanks.

Most storage heaters have two controls, input and output.

The input is used to control the amount of charge the heater stores, so in this chilly weather its usual to have this set to a higher number. Then in the spring as the temperature rises this can be turned down abit so saving on electricity.

The output is used to control the amount of heat released during the day. It operates a flap so at night it needs turning to the minimum setting.

If your mum doesn't want to keep changing the settings you could set the output to halfway so as to release some heat all day.
Know the difference between what you WANT and what you NEED. :T
  • For older folk who are in most of the time storage heaters are actually quite good, they heat the house during the day are cheap to maintain and there are no risks of carbon mon-oxide poisoning, and lower risks of fire than with a gas or real fire.

Do make sure your mum knows not to dry her washing on them, place things on them or in front of them, if she does they are likely to be damaged (or worse cause a fire).

The input controls how much heat is stored. Set it to half way to start with and adjust for comfort.

Output is for how much heat is given out, if you turn it up you will get lots of heat but it may run out before the end of the day, lower will be longer and slower release of the heat.

She should turn the output down before going to bed (or out) and back up again in the morning to save money.
