  • With payday coming up, I need to get some more bread flour for the BM

What brands do ppl recommend? Plus, the cheapest place to get it?

We usually get through 4 loaves of bread a week (hubby, me, 16 yr old sis and our lodger (who is my best mate)) so use around 3kg of flour

    Hi Sammy_Dee,

I use tesco or asda own brand bread flour. There's a very recent thread discussing bread flour and the best place to buy it so I've added your post to it so that you can browse the replies.

I tried the Waitrose Essentials one yesterday.

Its in the top five cheapies:money:

    Its lovely:)

I think its as nice as the more expensive ones I've had from there (the organic & the Canadian).

Not tried it, but I have to say generally Waitrose have it "right", maybe not the cheapest, but if affordable then always good value

I will look out for it next time I need bread flour [normally use ASDa or Lidl]

I had been using Tesco/Asda/morrisons own brand bread flour(im convinced they are all the same flour just in different coloured packaging,61-68p per 1.5KG,Happy with the results at the time)However recently Asda "rolled back"the price of Allinsons Premium very strong white bread flour to 90p for 1.5kg,and it is noticably better than "own brand"flour,im trying to stock up while the price remains at 90p(they also have 3kg bags of Allinson strong white bread flour for £1.77 3kg,works out at 59p per KG)

    Hi MrsE,

I'm afraid not, as Martin has recently asked board guides to cut down the number of sticky threads on our boards.

Also, as supermarket prices have changed since the thread was started the information in the first post is no longer relevant. For example, tesco strong white bread flour which in January cost 68p now costs £1.29.

But if someone was to do an up to date one, could it be merged into a sticky at the top?

Last week it was the same price as Asda at 50p, it was this price for months. I prefer the Tesco flour but there's no way I'm encouraging them paying that price I'm going to to try the Waitrose cheapy one today. Thanks MrsE great thread
